Hi Neil,
The medal is actually called the "War Medal".
To get his WW2 service record you need to go to Kew or get a researcher to copy the file in my post #5
I suspect he may have signed on for another voyage on the ship so I suggest you get the Official Logbook and the Crew Agreement to check if he was aboard. The log is at Kew in piece BT 165/1268
Ship's name Mascara Official Number 133019 Date of Voyages 24 December 1914 - 8 February 1915, 25 February 1915 - 13 April 1915, 30 April 1915 - 5 June 1915 and 13 June 1915 - 2 July 1915.
I have 4 cards for him if you don't already have them.
Regards
Hugh

Re: Help with crew lists 1914-1960
Thanks guys that´s great, much appreciated. I guess now the question is to find out which ships he signed on to after the Mascaras ill-fated last voyage in July 1915; given that he was torpedoed twice thereafter (so my Dad thought) but of course we don´t know where and when. For his WW2 service it looks like Kew is the best bet as I cannot find record of him anywhere online during 39-45 despite all his medals
Many Thanks for all your help so far!!

Re: Help with crew lists 1914-1960
I have all those cards Vernon - I didn't post them because of the copyright of the site that holds them - they may be upset especially as it is a £pay site. I invited Neil to message me if he wanted them - see #4. There are 4 for him. No reply from Neil so I presume he has them.
Regards
Hugh

Re: Help with crew lists 1914-1960
Hello Hugh
Not too sure on that Copyright ,as I understand it if one Pays for what you get then surely it is your Material to do what you want with it??
What do you think?
After all there have been many many such Copies posted on here in the Years past, and no one as yet had said anything about it.
Just my views
Does it actually say Copyright anywhere ?? Just asking
If the site allows one to download the Papers then it should not be Copyright!
Cheers

Re: Help with crew lists 1914-1960
Hi Vernon, The copyright is with FMP as they have made them available at £cost via a partnership with the National Archives Kew.
Some of the main genealogy forums don't allow the posting of these images as they may cause issues for the site owners. I leave it to you and the owners as to how you wish to proceed. Rather than get the site into any bother, I don't post them but ask the individual to contact me via PM - that way they get the images and the poster and the owners have no case to answer.
As far as I know no one has chased anyone up over this yet - does not mean the can't or they won't. If you think about it they are available at cost for individuals but if they are posted on public forums for people to obtain free they may not like it. I don't agree with it but play safe.
Just because you have purchased an image does not mean you can post it online - at the very least you should acknowledge the copyright holder.
Regards
Hugh
