Re: Union Castle
Jim in post 1 Trader asked the question about wearing caps as the picture of James Camb had him wearing a cap I am assuming that is the picture he was referring to and I am actually directly answering that question and I have assumed that that picture as I said in the answer above is nothing to do with his job in Union Castle

Rob my reply wasn't in reply to your post it was just a general reply to the whole thread.I have been looking the guy up to see if he had any other job apart from MN where he may have worn such a uniform.

Re: Union Castle
I had read up on him in the past because of the Union Castle connection . The fact that he got returned to jail whilst out on licence and had to finish his sentence only been released a year before he died made me think that he had been quite fortuitous to have Missed the Gallows
In Reading the history I believe there had been several complaints about him in the past 4 basically approaching the car go I don't know in those days how he'd actually got away with it maybe it was circumstantial evidence and maybe the ladies didn't want to pursue their claims made me think he was a bit of a lad

Re: Union Castle
RE #14, Keith, brings back memories of my second trip as peggy on the Greenwich in ballast crossing the the atlantic in December. Carrying breakfast from midships to messroom aft. Heavy seas and a wet deck. get the picture, lost the lot all over the deck. Great memories, great times.

Re: Union Castle
I can never recall seeing an officer on UCL with a hanky in his top pocket so the photo may well be from some other source.
Deck stewards on Cunard were something special in first class but on UCL there were also some but again only for first class bloods.
There was on our TV last night a very interesting prog about the Queen Mary from drawing the plans to her last voyage as a passenger liner.
Very well presented and informative.

Happy daze John in Oz.
