MV Rangatira 1982 Falkland crew list
Hi,
Does anyone have a copy of the crew list for the MV RANGATIRA 1982. Sailing Southampton 19th June 1982 arrived Port Stanley Falkland Islands 11th July 1982 or know where I can get a copy.
I would be so grateful if someone can help me with this.
Kind Regards
Martin

Hi Martin,
Would the MOD have the crew list? I was on the MV Cedarbank. We got there a bit later.
All the best.

Re: MV Rangatira 1982 Falkland crew list
Kiwi engineers may be able to help - Adolf van Asbeck (from Island Bay, Wellington, NZ) was at school in the UK and the MOD put out a call for 'Any NZ engineers who know how this thing works! Dolf signed on.
I'll try a couple of other forums and see what comes up. It was a sad day when that ship departed NZ for the last time.

Re: MV Rangatira 1982 Falkland crew list
Found Dolf, but couldn't get a response on Facebook. Still lives in Wellington, NZ tough.
Martin - if you are doing a search, put in TEV Rangitira, not MV Rangitira. She was the last steam turbo electric passenger vessel in the world - very smooth machinery, but guzzled the fuel due to the boiler & electrical losses. Not very efficient. Went on her a couple of times.
The crew wouldn't downsize during the winter months, so often the stewards would outnumber the pax. It couldn't survive like that.
Which was a great shame as she was a very stylish-looking ship.

Re: MV Rangatira 1982 Falkland crew list
Hello Martin
As this was late in 1982 i am not sure if one could get a Crew List!
But that said it may just be an idea to Email the Southampton Maritime Archive and ask them, they are always very helpful.
There is as i know of no other way except if by chance someone may have a list!
city.archives@southampton.gov.uk
You can also i guess try and Email the National Archives as well and ask there too??
Make a records and research enquiry - Contact us (nationalarchives.gov.uk)

Re: MV Rangatira 1982 Falkland crew list
I managed to get a copy of The Avelona list from the Blue star online archives. Curious that I have an @ symbol in my name on the above list!
