Seaman's Mission in New York
My mother's parents Herbert (Nobby) HALL and Simonne HALL, I believe opened and ran the Seaman's Mission, somewhere in New York, USA around 1959 through to about 1965. Can anyone help with the location and or any stories etc about the Seaman's Mission in New York.

'LIFE' Magazine did an article in WWII about the Missions to Seamens work in New York during WWII and made sure apprentices and other young seamen were looked after whilst their ships were in port. It may be worth trying their archives (if available!) for further information.

Re: Seaman's Mission in New York
Just wondering if it may have been at 25 South Street. However the one there was an old Place Built around 1920. Possibly taken over by the Mentioned Couple ??
Cheers

Re: Seaman's Mission in New York
During the period of the Atlantic Convoys my father told me he stayed at the Salvation Army in New York while waiting for a ship back across the Atlantic. He had a choice of accommodation, sleep on a line for $1or or $2 to doss down on the floor. Trick was apparently use your belongings both as a pillow and to protect from theft. Come morning the line was released. That's how some Merchant Seaman were treated during that conflict.
