Re: awol
Bunkered coal there in 1947. A platform from the coal barge to the 'Raranga' with bare footed runners toting big baskets of coal and emptying them into the chute. when that was full, into a temporary four sided wooden 'box' behind the galley. Sixpence to go ashore in a bum boat and a damn sight more when you needed to get back.
Don't take any notice of the whistling, Ron - just the locals on Tenerife having a chat.

Re: awol
Correction, I meant we bunkered in the Canaries but at Las Palmas. This computer does what I tell it - just my mind sometimes interferes. Got myself a Dragon - No, not Firefox, the naturally speaking programme that types as I talk. Great for my arthritis. All I need to do now is to get it to understand what what I am trying to tell it.

Re: awol
Hi Richard, I presume this was when you were on the Port Boats?
Always used to call in there on the way to Oz via Capetown Fred.
