    Default Mike Newell

I know this is from another site but Mike was a member of this site as well and I am sure that Tom will not mind me posting his letter on this site concerning Mike's death.

    dear friends and and members.

i have just been informed that mike passed away on friday 27th July at 5
o'clock. mike had been fighting with an illness for some time and seemed to
be doing well in that department, being unaware the illness quietly turned
extremely aggressive and affected a number of vital body organs.

many of us have know Mike for some time and some for an extremely long time
perhaps even sailed with him. i had the great honour and pleasure of
meeting Mike and spending some time with him and his wife this year,
believe me if you have never met Mike it is a loss of an experience. mike
was a well educated and intelligent man but never boasted of his cleverness
    and practical dexterity.

Mike was a gentleman by all degrees, if you had the opportunity ever to
speak with you would find that he would be exactly the same if you were to
    meet him.

A fine man, a great bloke and a good friend.
rest in peace over the bar

    Tom
That's the way the mop flops.

My thanks to Brian for this site.

    Default Farewell Mike...

Very sad to hear of Mike Newell’s passing and sincere condolences to his wife and family in north west Somerset..
I remember him well from the earlier years on this site and he always seemed to bring a lot of commonsense and normality in his postings.I don’t think it was too long ago that he posted on this site.I knew that he had found a comfortable berth in the Sailors Home site where I believe he was Admin and made many good friends there but it was also good that he looked in here now and again.
Like many here we always assume our ’shipmates’ are going to be around forever and it’s always a shock and very sad to lose a fellow man.

Farewell Mike, and a peaceful voyage on the other side.

This sad news comes as a shock to me.
I had the pleasure of corresponding with Mike from time to time.
On occasion we also Skyped one another.
Last I heard from him, he had the Coach House up for sale and was doing some renovations.
Mike was a gentleman of the first order.
    I shall miss him.

    Default In thought: God Bless.

'Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone
Prevent the dog from barking with a juicy bone.
Silence the pianos and with muffled drum,
Bring out the coffin...let the mourners come.

    Let aeroplanes circle, moaning overhead,
Scribbling on the sky the message: He is Dead.
Put crepe bows 'round the necks of public doves,
Let traffic policemen wear black, cotton gloves.

He was my North, my South, my East, my West.
My working week and my Sunday rest.
My noon, my midnight, my talk, my song,
I thought love would last forever: I was wrong.

The stars are not wanted now, put out every one.
Pack up the moon and dismantle the sun.
Pour out the ocean and sweep up the wood,
For nothing now can ever come to any good."

    Default Mike Newall

Mike will be missed for his fine sense of humour, fair play and always up for a chat. Spoke to him a few times via Skype and always he would say' if your passing Mike look in', And as always you say 'Yeah, I'll do that' but we never do and now it's too late.

Rest easy Mike, we know if there's a Fiddlers Green, that's where you'l be.
