Re: Some may find this of interest
Tim forwards this sort of thing to me on a regular basis, he now spends about 10 months a year at sea either as a passenger or Compass Adjusting.
Any I think are of interest I will post.
As to the program about the mega ships, we had that here in Oz last year.
It may well be of interest to some as it shows how shipping, particularly with passengers, has changed and developed over the years.
Yes all waste food is ground up and fed to the fish, that is the only thing that goes over the side.
Every piece of conceivable waste is sorted and taken ashore, you would be surprised at the system on board to deal with it.
Is sea water used in the toilets, try using it to clean your teeth and let me know. LOL

Watched that program last night and what I found interesting was that MSC had chosen to use conventional twin screw propulsion as opposed to the azipod style of propulsion, though she was fitted with a number of thrusters both forward and aft. Going for that type of propulsion will allow her to get into ports where water depth is critical, vessels with sailors that hang below the hull obviously need more water in the ports they visit.

Re: Some may find this of interest
No Tony, some are very young.
But of interest is the mix of officers, it appears there are more Italian ships captains than any other.
Half the officers are also Italian, though there are a number of British and a few American as well.
Hotel managers, chief stewards as we knew them, head waiters and a good number of Head Chefs are also Italian.
As to the toilets, they are all the evac style similar to that used on aircraft.
But very often big problems as some passengers will put just about anything down them blocking the system.
