    Default Cruise ship MS Maud

Various sources are reporting that the MS Maud has lost power in the North Sea.
Apparently she was hit by a rogue wave, which smashed her bridge windows and put her navigation systems out of action.
Her main engines are still operating and steering is carried out in THE E. R. tow rescue tugs are on the way to her.
Ship has 266 passengers and 136 crew onboard.

Why would anyone want to go cruisng in Northern Europe in the winter months , especially this time of year.
Cheap I suppose, there again some are not so bright I suppose. Bit like a friend of mine who booked a cruise in January last year or may have been the year before.
She was really annoyed she did not see the midnight sun, well I suppose there was a J in the month.
I am sure we can all remember the Atlantic and January gales.

Seems strange that these days without electronics they are unable to navigate the ship. I guess that the only charts they have on board are electronic.
Emergency steering position seems to be in the engine room unless as per usual, reporters don't know the difference between the steering gear room and the engine room. If the gyros are also knocked out the magnetic compass is still available.

I suppose Maud being a Norwegian cruise boat, it's only logical that it's going to be sailing through the North sea much of the time.
I recently came back from a Canary Isle cruise, and had to cross the bay in a 11-12 blow on the way back. It's what happens if you want a bit of sunshine in the winter. We've often been to the Caribbean in the Winter, but there's always the wintery start and end to cruising from the UK. Same as those days at sea when working on the boats.

Oh yes that Bay of Biscay, sure can dish up some real Doozers , have experienced a few , one especially i will never forget! It was real scary even to me that really never worried much on Heavy Weathers!
But again can also be a pure delight at most times!
And all those lovely Islands around the Canaries, Oh just loved them all!

You go to sea either as a seaman or a passenger; either way you should be prepared for some rough weather, could be bracing or it could be terrifying, the sea is uncontrollable. These days U-Tube and other types of Tubes have plenty of pictures showing the wrath of the sea, yet people seem to be surprised by its changes.

There are a number of small cruise companies going to places such as artic and Antarctic these days.
Plenty of takers, as to midnight sun, silly girl that is in the summer months and well worth the experience as I know.
    Happy daze John in Oz.

Wow, what a nerve-wracking experience! I can't imagine being on a cruise ship dealing with such a situation. Hopefully, everyone onboard remains safe until the rescue tugs arrive. Speaking of cruises, I've been reminiscing about my past cruise adventures and considering booking one from Los Angeles. Checking out the options at www.cruisetimetables.com has been a blast, but I'll definitely be double-checking for any restrictions or safety measures. It's been too long since I've enjoyed the sea breeze and explored new destinations. Can't wait to set sail again soon!
