police job is not a happy one
I despair, it has just been announced that the British police force is considering recruiting university graduates, senior business people etc, and after 15 months training will be in the rank of Superintendent !!!!. So it takes a police recruit as a constable, longer to get to top pay as a constable, than these people to become Superintendent!! . In the MN the apprentice was given a lot of crap jobs, for a very good reason, he could relate to the jobs of everyone else. How would these bloody idiots feel if the surgeon about to operate on them, had been fast tracked and had been trained for 15 months?. I despair because the country is run by school boys, and it looks like the police force will go the same way. KT

I think the old two years on the beat was a brilliant system , they knew their job by walking it , now wave a degree and teh world is yours ,

They said they are going to recruit Chief Constables from Overseas. This Gov. is getting dafter every day, every day some thing more dafter comes out of Downing Street.
Cameron should be in a Circus, he is a Clown.
The best Chief of Police were in Buenos Aires, We got beat up for nothing, thrown in gaol, all our money ,cigs, lighters , watches stolen. and then wash the arses of the Horses in the Police Stables at 5.30 am, after a mug of water. Then sweep the big Avenida, wearing a bright yellow smock. with all the Argies laughing at us.
I am sure that would stop a lot of Crime.

There was a plan couple of years ago, now abandoned, to take the training of police out of the academy and into the universities for up to three years. They did it with the nurses back in 1985 and we are suffering for it now. But we have had a couple of Britis police here in senior positions so it may be a global thing.

Police
We have a Police Commissioner in W.A. who is I believe ex British police, but has been out here for years and is totally conversant with our police system. However as politics always comes into it with the likes of a Commissioner, he does get the occassional feral accusation by the usual misinformed press. I beleive he has been in most ranks and have been at some of his talks. He is down to earth and is quite often on the beat with his men so to speak. He is a hands on policeman and I have a high regard for him. Think the UK lost a good member of the force many years ago. I would not like a police officers job, and think the good ones are worth holding onto. As regards degrees and fast tracking to me is an insane idea and belongs in the waste paper basket along with a few of their so called degrees. This they call modern society ???? John Sabourn

PS
Its a pity they couldnt fast track some more of our great ship builders and engineers of years ago and the industrys they threw away. Would take longer to train a carpenter joiner or bricklayer than to train a police superintendant, sounds a bit out of order to me. Cheers John Sabourn

THE OLD BILL:
Was a time with the Bobby on the beat, a clip on the ear and knowing they could fit you up faster than Burton's if you did not toe the line, was enough to keep most on the straight and narrow. A shout for help, could bring a couple of coppers and help really quick. Now, we still cannot do without them, but apart from seeing the odd flashing lights and hearing a siren, rarely see a policeman around here. Started wearing a watch again years back and have had to get a sat nav, cos there was no constable about to ask the time or ask directions.

It's all a sympton of our general decline in standards. The lunatics are running the asylum. A recent advert I saw " train to become a professional plumber, 70 day course"
Who would be a policeman anyway these days?, PC and race laws make the job impossible. I saw two young police women ( girls to me! LOL) trying to apprehend a drunk girl in Clitheroe a few months back, she simply broke away from them and ran off. The WPCs looked about six stone, pony tails and glasses and about four foot six. I said to the wife at the time " if they are the new police force, God help us"
Despair is the word Keith.

The only big boobs in the Sweeney, the1970s British television police drama were errors and mistakes. Focusing on two members of the Flying Squad, a branch of the Metropolitan Police specialising in tackling armed robbery and violent crime in London. The programme's title derives from Sweeney Todd, which is Cockney rhyming slang for "Flying Squad".
The only Lumpy jumpers in uniform to a large extent then were in the Royal Navy.
Though the police in The Sweeney were far removed from the cosy BBC world, any one remember Dixon of Dock Green, or even from the BBC's slightly more realistic Z-Cars ?
