Phillippines.
I've just been looking at the different governments contribution to the disaster. As usual the UK is top of the list.It does not mention any European countries by name but European Commission, does this let them all off the hook??? or do they intend contributing at a later dater,Originallly China pledged less that 1 mlllion Dollars I see that they have now upped it,not enough to make a dint in the money that they have.Is the UK figure 10 million backed up by public donation of a further 43 million giving an overall total of £53m.
Government Aid At A Glance.
UK. £53m.
Japan £31m.
Australia £17m.
US. £12.4m.
European Comm. £6..8m
UAE £6.2m
Sth Korea £3.1m
China. £1.2m
Regards.

Re: Phillippines.
Yes,Britain as well as being a soft touch to the rest of the world for health and benefits tourists,is also a soft touch for disaster appeals, children in need etc.
No wonder ,like myself we all have donation fatigue.
I personally am sick and tired of being asked for donations to countries whose governments will not care for their own people or squander corruptly any such aid given.I am not referring specifically to what has just happened in the Phillippines. Terrible, but there is only so much we can do--give life-giving supportive aid to the people yes,but also help their governments to give constructive aid to lessen the impact of future disasters. Any country with huge populations(Catholic countries,or African nations) must also shoulder a responsibility for allowing their nations to continue multiplying in an increasingly physically geographically unstable and poverty deprived world without making precautions for their future safety.

Gullliver
avey you are usually spot on with your postings but have a look at this.I am told that 53.4 of Italian families are childless 21.9 have 1 child and 19% have 2.
I have looked at the Central and South America and averages are below 3 children per family. If you look at North Africa there you will see many children per family.I think some Scandinavian countries have more than the countries that i mentioned.

Someone has to readdress the imbalance Jim, three cheers for the Scandinavians, at least we will have some Caucasians left in the world. But probably the equivalent total population of Scandinavia is born in China and India every single day, so the Caucasian population will remain in decline ad infinitum until going the way of the dinasaurs
It is reported today that India is the largest military equipment purchaser in the world, with over 67% of its imports coming from Russia which is the second largest arms exporter in the world, and we in our wisdom are still giving aid to India
