At the last State election the then opposition, now Liberal Gov, made law and order one of the main issues.
One of the new laws removes the suspended sentence situation, though many think the original suspended sentence should be reinstated, aresult our prisons are now overflowing.
To aliviate the situation the gov has purchased a number of shipping containers that have been madified to be used as accomodation.

Students of history may recall that a similar situation occured in UK during the late 1700's. Prisoners were then housed in old ship hulks and later transported to Australia.

There are many, particularly those of Aboriginal descent, who would like to see some form of revenge.

So those of you living near a port be on the look out for a shipping container coming your way.

One of my daughters ( Irene )is a captain in the correction dept in the jail in Alice Springs and she told me that most of prisoners are Aborigines mostly for being drunk and disorderly but are well behaved in the jail

Can see this opening a whole can of worms (pun intended). Poofs in a can. Steal cans only used here. These cans are murder to open. Alright will stop but would suggest that they can the polly's along with the criminals as there is no bloody difference between them.

Lou my observations of aboriginis is that you get good and bad in any race or society. the aborigines get a bad name by a few amongst a few. As their population is very small compared to others they have a bigger ratio of offenders to their number. I have met a few workers offshore and on ships and found them ok. These were the ones who have assimilated into a western type society. Had one who was on the cards to play Rugby for Australia and even been for his trials, but due to a back injury had to give up. They as a part of a race, themselves dislike the few who cause problems. They the same as other cultures have different ideas to us. The ones who do cause all the ferment are the same as their western type brothers who have got used to the hand out system. They were treated differently in the past, I can remember in Australia when they weren't allowed in pubs, in the 50"s. Nowadays they have every equality and may take another 100 years to get used to. There is a lot of bias against them from certain sections. Don't think of me as a do gooder, as I can also get very upset at some of the antics a few get up to. Cheers John Sabourn

John they had to allow them into the pubs now as there are that many claiming to be an abo and look more anglo than I am. Then again I think that I can claim to be of aborignal decent now since visiting a Abo community while on holidays so must have brushed up to one so better get my anus up to the Social Welfare Office. The main problem here on the Eastern side of Oz is that the government for decades have been throwing money at the problem but it always ends up in the south eastern part of Oz and the poor buggers up north get jack crap of it. Point in question over claims to be Abo's you do not have to go any further than Tasmania where the last Abo died at a ripe old age she was but all of a sudden over the last couple of decades there are tribes of them attesting to have descended from them and not a touch of tar about them.

Les the first dog we had out here was a cross kelpie, it was a stray we took in. It must have belonged to aborigines and just been dumped. Whenever an aborigine went past the house, its hackles used to rise and would certainly have had a go if got the chance. Cheers John sabourn

Will Aus NZ et al wind up like US with such a huge prison population, many for petty or less than serious crimes or the 3 strikes in CA & your out? I do not know this whole thing of imprisoning everyone is the best way to go. Yes of course for serious crimes however there has to be another way for 1st offenders or minor crimes, what I do not know.
Aboriginals in Aus sure do get a bad rap it is certainly very sad to see in Alice or NT Darwin the state of those who drink the water front walk in Darwin where the war memorial walk is is known as The Coolibah Walk. this is due to all the cask boxes & bladders from same littering everywhere. We employed on our sites Aboriginals & we had less recalcitrant's with them than we did with the everyday population.

Maybe the early white people who settled in Aussie could be to blame by bringing in their ways onto to the Aboriginals just a thought
