Silent Majority
At the risk of making myself unpopular, I'd like to suggest that many politicians are not half as bad as they are made out to be by some people - on this site for instance. MPs are representatives of their electorates, the voters. In my opinion the Silent Majority deserve all they get, simply by being silent. MPs are not mind readers, so they CANNOT listen to people who won't talk to them. If the PCs, feminists, human rightists etc do all of the talking, he/she hasn't much choice on who to listen to.
By all means have a grizzle on this site, if it makes you feel better - I know, I'm human too. But in most instances it's a case of preaching to the converted. Which in itself is a political move - tell the people what they want to hear. At least give some thought to sending a copy - sanitised as necessary - to your MP. So he/she gets to hear the other side of the story, and can give it some thought. Even start your own pressure group in your electorate, if you need something to do. It's called fighting fire with fire. The same applies to your Euro representative - who needs your input in order to justify his/her existence.
In other words it's high time the Silent Majority stopped being so bl**dy silent, and made their views known in the RIGHT places. If you can't be bothered, then so be it, but it's not much use blaming others for the results of your own inactivity. In short, if you want it changed, get off your ass and help change it.
PS. What's this new political party You Kip (While I scheme?).

Re: Silent Majority
I agree entirely Braid. From and including age 85 one is require to take driving test each year and this applies to us both shortly. I have been pounding this home and continue to do so in as much as I got a circular from the Premier for NSW asking for donations for the coming March 2015 State elections and replied to him to the effect that the State of South Australia Labor government decided against such discriminatory legislation and I seek his assurance that NSW will reverse theirs. I didn't send money!!
Richard
Address to an NRMA Meeting
LICENSING OF SENIOR CITIZENS
Being a member of this target section of our community I urge proper recognition of the critical link between mobility, independence and health.
Continued advancement in medical science allows our older community to increasingly enjoy near perfect eyesight, extended mobility, independence and of course the well-being that naturally follows. It is essential that these critical links between mobility and independence be properly recognised. It is a fact that the loss of such mobility and independence invariably links to depression and other debilitating illnesses and a resulting considerable cost to the wider community.
MEDICAL TESTING (and Reporting) FOR ALL DRIVERS AGED OVER 75
This scheme regularly provides the RTA, on a prescribed form, detailed private medical information that could be used against a senior citizen’s better interests. Doctors’ relevant responsibilities should be confined to ensuring the best medical treatment and advice to the individual about the options in relation to their safe driving future, not to be the agent of the RTA. Imagine the choice a patient has. “If I tell my doctor I have “such and such”, he or she will not give me approval to drive my car”. Whereas, if the doctor is informed, that doctor may well prescribe a cure or relief to resolve the problem so it no longer is an issue.
COMPULSORY DRIVING TESTS
What a cruel thing to do to a senior citizen. Put them in a car with an unknown examiner in the full knowledge that if they get over-nervous and blow the test their future mobility and lifestyle will be shattered. Wouldn’t the kindest and most practically sensible approach be to make a one off gift of either a DVD or booklet covering all the current Rules of the Road to every age pensioner on renewal of their driving license. In fact I see room for improvement generally to encourage drivers to keep informed of the Rules of the Road.
DISCRIMINATION
To single out a group of citizens purely on seniority is an unacceptable incursion on their freedom of movement and lifestyle. There are enough other laws and surveillance already in place that deal with the use and safety of vehicles and to ensure the capability of the user. Why should we be subjected to pre-emptive regulation on the strength of what might happen? Senior drivers are, in the main, careful, considerate law abiding citizens with driving skills honed by many years experience. Why should we be subjected to such discriminatory pre-emptive attention when others who may have health impairment, addiction, behavioural, psychological, attitude and anti social issues are NOT.
We drive within the law at the prescribed speed and are tail-gated by enormous trucks and P- platers who then whiz past well above the speed limit. We have an accident and the press and the media delightedly give it full coverage and debate the need to get old people “off the Road”. Is it because other events are too numerous to be considered worthy of a headline? Heaven forbid!!! I ask “Just take a comfortable chair down near the highway, sit there and watch the discourtesy, the jockeying for position, atrocious examples of driving behaviour and take note of who and what you see in the drivers’ seat”.
Please, we senior citizens have been loyally parting with membership fees over very many years. We ask you to convince this new State Government that we just want our right not to be discriminated against.

Dear Ms Sage,
Licensing restrictions of Older Drivers
Attached is the text of an address to an NRMA and Former Labor State Government meeting from which I wish to discuss with you our Coalition State Government’s plans. In addition there are the following:
Many of the senior citizens in associations to which I belong were appalled at the suggestion that as we attain a particular age we will advertise our seniority in the form of an “S” plate. Has any thought been applied to serious danger this will attract to older drivers, their passengers and indeed other law abiding road users, as bullies of the road; and there are many, do their worst?
Much concern was also expressed when the Coalition State Government were reported to be against the current Federal Government proposed legislation that would allow possible litigation success in respect of the discrimination of the State’s decent law abiding citizens. This indicated to us that discrimination was indeed on the Government agenda.
We have been staunchly loyal supporters of the Coalition Liberal and National Parties. My wife and I were delighted with the overwhelming support experienced in the last State Election. We envisaged a break from the ‘Nanny State’ development pursued by Labor and its union backers.
So you can consider the above in the light of my background experiences please take a look at the website I manage for the retirees of Queensland Insurance Company Ltd that became the ‘Q’ in QBE Insurance Group.
With kind regards,
Richard Quartermaine

Re: Silent Majority
How do I go on ???
I have a Pakistan Born MP, she has never ever answered one comunication with me, Letters, emails and telephone calls.
The majority of residents where I live are of that Faith. she spends a lot of time in Pakistan and Saudi Arabia campaigning for the Rights of Mu . slims. Look on google ... "They work for you"..
My Town Councillors are also of that Faith.
I am a minority in a foreign land, all my votes are wasted because there are more of them than there are of us British.
It was British Polititians who invited all these immigrants to take over my country so they could get the immigrant Vote and stay in power, so now I am a minority.
I just despair and now hope our country gets what it deserves.
I have sent emails to Cameron, no answers. Why have a Prime Minister who does not answer the questions of the people?
I have sent emails to various Ministers , No answer,. I have only had one answer over the years off one Minister,.
That was from Andy Burnham, the Labour Minister for Health.
He said. "quote,,,,,, "Dont you know you do not send Emails to the Minister?" end of email.
So why the hell do we even have a Parliament?? the people are totally ignored.
Just have one Great Dictator who has Britain at his heart.and loook at all the money we could save.
Brian

Re: Silent Majority
Brian robpage pointed out once before about the breakdown of the population in Bolton and as Braid pointed out people should get up off their ass and vote.It would appear that the very high White British population in Bolton don't bother unless they are happy with the Pakistani MP and run council.Figure here.

Re: Silent Majority
I have to say that my MP is very good, i always get a reply from him, even though most of it is the usual waffle. I contacted him again recently about the subsidised bar and restruants in the commons, and he did approach the guy who runs the books there , and sent me a copy, it didnt really satisfy my complaint, as he can get a meal and a pint in there, all for a fraction of what you have to pay in London elsewhere, but there you go, i will continue to hound him on certain points, including his expenses. I discovered he owns a flat in London, which he rents to another MP, and he in turn rents a flat which he claims on expenses!!, KT

Re: Silent Majority
Hi Jim
Those figures are more than FIVE Years out of date.
Our government is paying them to breed. Having babies is a growth industry, the Beneifits they recieve is good.
Ghaddafi said before the West had him Killed, said "We do not have to fight the west, we will take over with weight of numbers." so they are breeding.
quote...........
According to the ONS figures, the non-white British population has grown from 6.6 million in 2001 to 9.1 million in 2009 or nearly one in six. The white British population has stayed the same, while there has been a rise in the ‘other white’ population from 1.4 million to 1.9 million, and an increase of 50 per cent in the mixed-race population from 672,000 in 2001 to 986,600 in 2009.
In Bolton we have sevral districts , or Polling Wards, I think there are Four, I happen to live in a ward that is overflowing with them. Other districts are nearly all white Bolton People, they have English MPs.
It was once a lovely area. I have been here for 51 years, a once very nice avenue, surrounded by trees and a lake. Now it is like Karachi. I cannot sell my house now, they only offer a quarter of the marrket value so I cannot sell and buy another property in an English area. We are trapped. In my avenue of 16 houses only four of us are English the rest are from Pakistan. All on Benefits and two big cars on each drive way, They all got New Free Gas Heating installed this last year,
I applied, No Way, you were daft enough to have a MN Pension that I paid for.
They walk around like the Taliban, turbans and shuftis on and the women in kebabs, They throw rubish in the gardens that were once carefully tended by nice people, it was a pride and joy to walk down the avenue.past gardens, lawns carefully manicured, colourful array of flowers, But not any more.
it is Not rascist to say all this, I have a friend just around the corner from me, He was a Ugandan Indian, He knocked on my door a few months ago , and said quote...."The Bloody Asians are moving into one of the hiouses", he was shocked that more are coming in. He said only last week he is trying to move to a better area.
If you walk through the Town Centre of Bolton you will not hear any English spoken.
There is a road , off Deane Road that has a BIG sign over and across the road. "WELCOME TO I..SLAMIC BOLTON."
I guess that says it all.
So if you do not live in a part of England that has a VERY LARGE Immigrant population then it will be hard to understand.
Brian.
Here is one of my neighbours , looks like a taliban.he has two wives who have the full monty on. never seen their faces.

Re: Silent Majority
These are just some of the activities of my MP.
Nothing at all for the Benefit of her English Constituents.
every time I have telephoned her Office at the Labour Party HQ on St Georges Road, she is never available, She is Overseas. My emails are never answered. We cannot vote her out as we are outnumbered.
