    Default Diabetes

After 3 weeks of running around hospitals getting various tests for high blood pressure and images taken electronically of bodily organs plus tests of all waste matter, went back to the hospital yesterday to get signed off. Although not a glowing report doesn’t look like I will get a job as an astronaut in the In the immediate future. However she did say as far as she was concerned she would consider me a diabetic, even though I have had tests done almost yearly for such, and told I was near the line, have now apparently crossed it. And for that race over the line receive another tablet to take once a day as a prize.. I get to read the small print to Day when I visit my own doctor. There must be a few out there who are diabetic and maybe they could give advice on how this is likely to change my habits of a lifetime. The likes of sweets, wine and spirits not to mention beer would be a good starter. She also mentioned something about the eyes. I was expecting to have pacemakers and all sorts lined up for me at this interview. The interview today with my GP no. Doubt will entail lectures on past life styles and future ones, but would rather hear from anyone who has to live with diabetes. Cheers JWS

Well not to go into it too much I have had Diabetes Type 2 for quite a few Years now and am on Diabex XR 1000mg Twice a day with Meals!
My Diabetes is well under Control and I have no real issues with eating or drinks (non alcoholic) I eat what I like ,and drink normal Cool Drinks like Saxby Ginger Beer ,Coke, and have my daily other Sugar hit with a Spoon of Raw Sugar on my Cereal. My Blood Sugar Readings are never over the 5,2 mark, I keep a check with my own Monitor.
yes one has to keep a check on the Eyes as well, but there again although I have slight Cataracts I have bought some expensive Eye Drops tat are definitely helping to reduce those as well.
I cannot talk on any Alcoholic Drinks !
But a general normal Diet with a daily walk which burns excess Sugar is what most Diabetics need!
Just live the way you are used to do not worry, and take your Tablets regular!
The ones I take are really good as they are slow releasing so work all day and night!
    Cheers

PS Taking two Chromium Picolinate 400mcg Tablets a day as well will also help the Blood Sugar level,i take two as well as my normal Diabex XR.

#2 At present moment in time started yesterday take 1 Diaformin X-R tablet with dinner at night. Plus an increase in prazosin. The names are always changing as different versions come on the market. The prazorin is for blood pressure. The hospital doctor probably thought what’s this old bloke worried about what does he expect at nearly 81 miracles. Cheers JWS.

I know it can cause some people a lot of problems and is not nice.

Had a full blood examination last week as part of my annual grease and oil change.
All good, no need for any medication thankfully.

One thing that always amazes me is the rate at which you have to take pills.

'Take one pill twice a day"
Surely to do this you need a piece of string!!

For the last five years my blood pressure hasn't changed it is a constant, around 128 over 68, I also have a BP kit so I always test myself every week,
Last year I cut out sugar in tea and in my diet , I have lost 16 pounds in weight.

Never drink any fizzy drink or coca cola , BAD for you and will eventually kill you prematurely.
Walking is good, but Exercise as well every day OR ELSE.
I have to get past the 100 year mark.no future in a box. I am 83 next birthday.

UK medical scientists in an article today in our paper tells it that just two fizzy drinks per day can lead to type two Diabetes.

Have got one of those step counters, keep a check each week on what I have done. Average about 9,000 per day.

    hi j sabourn
I never knew I was diabetic, until I had a blood test a few years ago, anyway the usual stories of gloom and doom from those whom can only think in that way, ie a glass half full or one half empty.
drink, I only drink red wine and i highly recommend as much as you like with in reason,
occasionally I have a beer, never been a lover of sweet things so sugar intake was always not a problem.
porridge for breakfast everyday with a banana nuts and sprinkled with cinnamon. main meal small portion of chicken or fish with three portions of veg and potatoes everyday.
last time at the doctors the nurse took my blood pressure three times because she said just in case it was a wrong reading, it was not.
she said my weight slightly over fifteen stone but ok for my height, but was completely happy with my health and my control of diabetes.
also just recently back from spain and my mates doctor is constantly asking him has he been drinking enough red wine.
maybe this might help, I hope so but if not at least you can enjoy the vino
    tom

When drinking any alcohol always have three or four days a week with NO alcohol.
Your Liver has to recover itself. If you don't you will eventually have a serious Liver problem and could shorten your life. Not everyone can have a Liver transplant, depends on many things.
I only have a glass of wine with dinner on a Saturday and a glass of wine on a Sunday with Dinner.
As you get older the Liver cannot absorb the Alcohol the same as when we were younger.

My son is one of the Worlds Leading Liver Consultants. he keeps a check on me.
    Cheers
