No this is not about Politicians and others who we know increase every ones blood pressure.

Last week after my Medical Assessment I was sent for an Echo Sounding of my heart.
After much prodding and poking while wired up like some spaceman I was put on the tread mill.

Just about knackered after 4.5 minutes came off.

Tuesday told by my GP I may have a small arterial blockage and have an appointment with a Cardiologist early next month.
Have no other symptoms and am generally in good health.
A dye will be put into see if there is a blockage and if so a Stent will be inserted.

Fine, then Wednesday her indoors has an episode at the shopping center.
Not feeling good, bit dizzy so go to the local pharmacy where they take her blood pressure.

190 over 110 and pulse at 57, not good.
Rush home to our GP who puts here on medication.
Back next day, now down to 150 over 80, lot better.
Keep taking the pills and come back in two weeks.

So down to the local pharmacy and buy a blood pressure monitor so we can keep check on it.
Going down now only 135 over 80.

So look up what should it be based on age.

Well according to that she has almost perfect pressure which for her age, they love to bring that into it when ever they can, should be about 130 over 78.

So took mine, 120 over 80.

According to the chart that is the level for some one between the age of 17 to 24.
But I do, when asked how old I am, say I am a 16 year old with 60 years experience, so maybe that is the correct pressure for me then.

Now for the Cardiologist next month, what fun that will be!!!!!

But all this Climate crap is enough to push up blood pressure for any sane person.

Home Bllod pressure Monitors can be quite eratic at times John,i know mine is at times as i too get reading of the Young age group,which is not corect.
I have had the machine checked and it seems fine. But at most times i get the normal readings of what it should be for my age! So dont panic there! LOL

As for the slght Blockage that may be there ,another normal test as i have had in the past.
These days though thankfully as long as you have a good set of Veins at hand ,they now use the Wrist to insert the Dye for the Angiogram,which is so much better and easier,after they put a very tight Strap on the Wrist for a while so as to stop ant bleeding,if having to insert a Stent like I had many Years ago they also use the wrist!
If they cannot use the Wrist because of Veins are too narrow etc,then its the Groin treatment mate,and that although not too bad takes a mite longer to settle .

I was in the Cardiac Hospital on Wednesday for a Echocardiogram. my Blood pressure was 121 /79, which is quite good for an 84 year old.
I have to await the results of the Echocardiogram. probably get the details by post next week.
I do get Arrhythmia of the heart, irregular heart beats,
Two months ago the Cardiologist put me on a blood thinning tablet to prevent clots. Iproxiban..

Well on my first pre-op examination for my eyes my blood pressure was up in the 170s - hhmm says nurse go and see your GP - off to GP where practice nurse gets similar reading - " Are you stressed up ? " she asks - Stressed up, I was wound up like a coiled spring ' Yes ' I said, " Thought so " she replied, come back in a fortnight - I have ' white coat syndrome ' - every time I have my blood pressure taken it shoots up because basically I am a worrier and get tensed up. Went back in a fortnight and it was down to 141 - returned another two weeks later and it was 110 - " Go away and stop worrying I was told " - great - how can you stop worrying when you have just been told that unless you have two ' tricky ' ( in the words of my Surgeon ) operations one on each eye you are going to go blind. Come the first op day, an anaesthetist takes my blood pressure - 170 - ' Not surprised ' says anaesthetist - " you will do " - op goes ahead OK - following op two months later - same thing happened - and anaesthetist was happy to put me under. Someone medical only has to mention blood pressure to me and mine goes shooting up - its a mind thing they say

Had to rush my wife into casualty last Thur, pain under her arm, they did the usual checks,blood pressure, then Xray, heart etc, then back onto the bed, now like Chris my wife has White coat syndrome, the Dr said we will just check you blood pressure again, and I winced as I knew what was coming, 237/110 before it came up I told the Dr who didn't know her it will be high, when we left after four hours it was still high, but she is now on two Amlou ? tablets instead of one a day. At 83 she has always run on a high boiler pressure. She monitors her own pressure and it is usually OK

Her in doors is lot better now and we have got it down to 135 over 80 and she is feeling a lot better.
Went for a seven kilometer walk yesterday which we did in 1 hour 35.

According to the Blood Pressure UK official site then ideal blood pressure is 120 over 80, a reading I regularly get, but there is another site which shows pressure for age.
Though this site does say that the figures do not apply to all, some may be lower, some higher depending on other aspects.

So keep taking the pills and wait to see what the specialists say.

That's what my wife used to do on Drs advice, he said he would take that as a correct reading.

When I dislocated my shoulder earlier this year my BP was through the roof. Once the doctor had put it back into it's socket the nurse quipped, " well that worked your BP has dropped 30 points already."

Maybe Victoria you should do that more often if it drops that much. LOL

Many that go into the Doctors Rooms get what is known as White Coat Syndrome ,I know as I do all the time.
I take my Blood Pressure before going and its always quite normal,after sitting and waiting for a while at the Doctors by the time I get in the pressure has gone up! But if sitting for another few minutes and talking to the Doctor,after a while he then re takes the pressure and Bingo! Sure enough its down!
Happens to Millions of people I am told!
