Iain,
Believe I sailed with your Dad in 1976 on the Humboldt , it was his first motorship , hard working.
We actually broke down leaving Riga and had the Russian Navy anchored next to us until we repaired and
left.
Up to the 70's there were steam men and motor men 'High pressure plumbers ' and ' Stone crushers'
With the price of fuel increasing, there were fewer steam ships , the steam Engineers were sent on motor
ships, Not an easy task .
regards
John

Hi Aj,
I sailed on the Corato (Cerinthus sister ship) 1960-1962 as Radio Officer. Have many happy memories of that ship and its crew(s). Would you by any chance have sailed with a Chief Steward by the name of Tom Coyne or Capt Richards. They both sailed on the Carinthus but not sure which years. Tom Coyne was very friendly with Capt Harold Jackson and C/E Peter Connel.
Regards,
Joe Duffy
