Hardwicke Grange
I have decided to build a model of the Hardwicke Grange. Whilst there are several pics on the net of the ships what doesn't seem to be available are any pics or plans of her deck layout. I am particularly interested in the layout aft of the bridge section inc 4,5 and 6 hatches.
If any one can help me I would be very grateful.

hardwicke grange
tony.
As the royston and the hardwicke grange were built at the hawthorn leslie yard
in newcastle-upon-tyne,it will be possible to obtain a general arrangement plan
from the local county council, who now hold all the records for that shipyard.
just type into google newcastle county council, and find the contact us icon,
and then ask the question,
i got the accomadation plans of the royston grange from them, but sadly i did not keep the
whole plan,as it was not what i really wanted,i just wanted the accommadation bits.
if all else fails, try the greenwich maritime museum, they have lots of plans, their
e-mail is plansandphotos@nmm.ac.uk
best of luck

Well I got a very prompt reply from Newcastle informing me that they would be delighted "to have a look and see if they have got anything suitable. It would cost £30 an hour and they would like a cheque upfront for 2 hours research please!" Will wait and see what Greenwich come up with. In the meantime hopefully someone will remember that they have some photos including deck shots of maybe other crew members or whatever. Have found a couple but, especially, nos 5 & 6 hatches are proving elusive. My ex has a lot to answer for when she threw so much stuff out during our divorce

for tony
hi,
i have been looking at my plans of the royston grange, and i have the detail
around hatch 5.
i know this area is one deck lower on the hardwicke grange,so if you would like
a copy, please forward me your address.
also the picture i have of the royston grange is of a slight angle, which shows
a certain amount of the deck.

Hawthorn Leslie
Tony
Our business is just up the road from the old Hawthorn Leslie site. It is now almost completley covered by new housing now but the old drawing offices etc are still there but in a very dangerous state.
One of our customers has been into them and tells me that all the desks, drawing tables, templates in the drawing loft, etc. are still there. He has also, ahem! obtained many of the original drawings as apparentley virtually all of them are just lying around rotting away. If I see him soon i will ask him if he could get the Hardwicke(or sister ship's) plans for you but cannot promise anything.

Wow I would love to get a couple of hours in there John. It must be a gold mine of info and probably equipment. Isn't it sad how these places are abandoned and left to rot when there is so much history inside them still. Off hand not sure which other Houlder's ships that I sailed on were actually built there. I must do a little research as I intend making more models assuming this one doesn't end up looking like a pigs ear. Thanks for the info mate.
