.Dear Prime Minister.
Here is a copy of a letter I have sent to Tower Hamlets Council who are about to desecrate the Tower Hill Merchant Navy War Memorial.
Please can you use your influence to stop the despicable desecration of our war dead who gave their lives and have no known grave.

.To Tower Hamlets.
regarding
Richard Beggs, of Moving Venue,To Tower Hamlets Council.
I have been informed of this company with collusion from your Council to desecrate the Memorial for 35,000 dead Merchant Navy men and women who were killed and have no known graves in two World Wars and the Falklands War, to give you the freedoms you have today.
I have heard that Richard Begg of Moving Venue has your permission to desecrate the Memorial Park at Tower Hill for bankers and hooray Henrys to get drunk, dance and possibly urinate on OUR HALLOWED GROUND. If this is correct it is a disgusting and despicable act .
I have been in war zones in the Merchant Navy and have many friends and shipmates who were killed in Service of this once great Nation. Their names are on the Memorial plaques, where their families go to to pay their respects.
Please stop this wanton act of Desecration.
Would you allow this to happen on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier? or alongside the Memorial in Whitehall?
Copies to the Prime Minister, Home Secretary and the Newspapers.
Yours sincerely
Brian Aspinall
Thank you for your kind attention to this very serious matter.
Yours sincerely.

Tower Hill Memorial
London,s Tower Hill Memorial for Sailors lost at sea.
If the Banker,s Xmas Parties are allowed to go ahead on the suggested dates at this very important
memorial site, serving and ex Merchant Seamen should go to Tower Hill in our hundreds and make a
peaceful protest at such a disgraceful event taking place in such a sensitive place.
We fought long enough to have the MN recognized and to have our official MN Day.
These people cannot be allowed to get away with this disregard for our nations dead seafarers.
And do not forget if they get away with it, it will become an annual event
Regards Tony

Hi Brian
Lots of emails gone off, to Tower hamlets, local and national Press, Govt and John Prescott
They will all get sent again tomorrow
The problem is that most of these bankers and others whose jobs depend upon the "Invisible Exports" carried by the marine Industry they really have no concept of a ship and what it does, the ship is a commodity to them, when I was a Marine Supt I also became a member of the Baltic Exchange in St Mary Axe, when I was on the "Floor" listening to the brokers fixing ships my heart used to sink in my boots at some of the ships that were being fixed to carry certain cargoes, the lack of knowledge of actual ships by these men of whom 99.9% had never been to sea was unbelievable
So I do not expect many of this or that generation to have any respect or morals (or lack of them) or have any understanding of the offense they would be causing by the proposed activities

The following is content of an email I sent to Mr.Lutfor RAHMAN, Mayor of Tower Hamlets Council, at 12.16pm., this date (Oz.Time)..........
....As a former member of the British Merchant Service, now resident in Australia, I am incensed to learn of your council's decision to allow the site of the Merchant Navy Memorial, Tower Hill,, to be used for the purpose of commercially organised Xmas functions during November and December.
You are no doubt aware that the site is in memory of many thousands of men and women seafarers whose lives were sacrificed during two World Wars and other conflicts. The obvious disrespect shown by you and your council for the sanctity of this memorial both appals and disgusts me. Whilst I do not deny council's right to make decisions regarding the site, surely it is not a question of legalities, but one of common decency. By your actions you bring shame upon yourselves and earn the everlasting contempt of decent people everywhere.
It seems that nothing but harm can result from your lack of sensitivity and consideration for the many thousands of people adversely affected by your actions. In the name of decency I beg you to reconsider your decision in this matter.................
I have received automatic acknowledgement of my email with notice that a reply will be forwarded to me within ten days, however, I shall not hold my breath.
Like you all, I find it difficult to contain my anger at this outrage. If the British Government do not see fit to bring a halt to this abominable commercial project, then I would most certainly support any subsequent action, militant or otherwise. THIS MUST NOT BE ALLOWED TO HAPPEN.
...........................Roger.

To me this is symptomatic of what is so wrong in the UK today. I cannot believe that so called men of business and so called dignity would stoop so low. To me this is no different from someone dancing on my mothers grave, a total disrespect. Maybe for next year a rave party at the Cenotaph, or a general p**s up in the house of commons!
It also shows there is still little or no understanding by today's society of the sacrifices made by the brave men, and women, of the Merchant service.

Happy daze John in Oz.
