Hi All.
I have just had a reply to my e-mail to the Tower Hamlet Council.
Dear Mr Jenkins.
Thank you for your recent e-mail concerning a licensing application to use Trinity Square Gardens for corporate events. The council recieved considerable feedback on this proposal and in the light of this Mayor Rahman made the following announcment on Monday 8th Oct.
" Staging events in the Gardens was an idea put forward by Trinity House who have been working with the Council and the proposed event organisers-so I am surprised by comments made this weekend. The Council do not wish to cause any offence to any of the parties involved. As It no longer has the support of Trinity House and the maritime community I have put a stop to this event"
I hope this reassures you that the Council intended no disrespect to the people remembered through the War Memorials and appriciate that the Mayor was quick to act once the feelings of the community were known.
Thank you for taking the time to write to the Council concerning this important issue.
Helen Bonefield
Interim Sevice Head, Culture and learning.
I will write and thank her.
Cheers Des

Tony whilst agreeing with most of what you say, then it is imperative that both Brian or Chris state that they are willing to undertake this task, and if they do they will have our full support.
The letter should be addressed to the Elder Brethren of Trinity House stating that we want a response from the Brethren and not the marketing office, as we want a seamen to seamen reply and not some marketing department reply and above all we want honesty within that reply
Only an observation, but the letter should not be written by a committee but by the individual who takes on the task,(if anyone does) and we must trust that individuals judgement about the content.

I never whent to Tower Hamlets, but like you I had no reply from the Priminister, Home Secretary, But I did get one from my Euro MP Nigel Farage saying that he would get other Ukip EMPs to write in to Tower Hamlets, and that he shared my feelings over the hole affair, also from my local MP John Denham expressing sympathy.

[Available] Mike Lawrence to joanna
show details 2:34 PM (2 minutes ago)
More than glad to see common sense has won through in reference to your company holding parties on an area that was opened by HM Elizabeth in 1955 as a tribute to those who lost their lives endeavouring to keep this country supplied with the necessary goods for its survival in two world wars. Perhaps you are too young to of ever suffered the hardships that this nation and its allies suffered in those two horrendous eras. Hopefully this will be the last time your company will attempt to hold a party on what is considered hallowed ground.
I am Yours faithfully
M J Lawrence
Not holding my breath on a reply, but copy of letter sent to Miss Joanna.

Gentlemen,
Whilst honored that you consider me a person suitable to write to the Trinity House Brethren, I do not think that I am qualified enough. Let me explain.
I did not E mail the Mayor of Tower Hamlets nor his Licensing Officer. I, E Mailed the Prime Minister, The Home Secretary, my Local M.P. and Richard Beggs, none of whom I might add, had the decency to reply. I also E mailed Trinity House and received the reply you have seen.
You will note that in the reply to my E mail to Trinity House, Vikki Gilson says " You have seen reported ", in this she is perfectly correct, all that I saw of the matter was the reports in the media, I never actually received a letter, E mail etc, stating in writing, that Trinity House had put forward the plans etc.
Vikki Gilson also stated in the reply that " this is not accurate " in relation to the media reports I had read that Trinity House initially supported the idea of the Christmas Parties.
I therefore feel that anyone who actually received an E mail or communication from either the Mayor or Licensing Officer, in which they stated that Trinity House did support the ideas and in fact put forward the idea in the first place, is far better qualified to write to Trinity House. They actually have an official Tower Hamlets Council communication naming Trinity House.
I feel that I will merely be classed as someone, ( on my own admission in my E mail to Trinity House) who read about it in the papers. I therefore feel a person who qualifies as I stated above, will be more likely to be taken seriously. My feelings Gentlemen.
Chris.

Dear Ivan Cloherty
Thankyou for your recent enquiry regarding the use of Trinity Square Gardens for events. The booking in question will now not take place, please see the statement below from the Mayor of Tower Hamlets
-Commenting on the Trinity Gardens proposals, Mayor Lutfur Rahman said "Staging events in the Gardens was an idea put forward by Trinity House who have been working with the Council and the proposed event organisers so I am surprised by comments made this weekend. The Council do not wish to cause any offence to any of the parties involved. As it no longer has the support of Trinity House and the maritime community I have put a stop to this event"
Yours sincerely

---------------------------------------------------------
It may seem that Trinity House (TH) are denying their involvement at any stage but I cannot envisage the Mayor of Tower Hamlets laying himself open to libel proceedings in the above statement if the facts as he has explained them are incorrect.
I shall be travelling for the next couple of days and am advised that I "may" be receiving some comments from the M.O.D., if any are forthcoming I will keep you advised on my return
Ivan

Whilst I agree we should do all we can to prevent such a futuer occurance of this nature, there is one problem to consider.
The answer to this will be similar to the ones given by any politician. No one body will take the blame, each party will blame the other, and replies will be uncommited as to who is to blame.
We are attempting to get answers from bodies that do not take kindly to any form of critisism, or are ever inclined to accept any blame.

Happy daze John in Oz.
