Out of my curiosity.
Baron Prescott of Kingston-upon-Hull.
(John Prescott ex Deputy Prime Minister of this country) to the rest of us.
He was in the Merchant Navy 1955 to 1963 in the catering department. (according to his CV)
I was just curious and I wonder if anyone on this site had ever sailed with him.

Here is our friend John. when he was a winger now he is a whinger.
I met him in Liverpool and two of his bodyguards got a grip of me and held me over the railings on the Pier Head when he had unveiled the Battle of the Atlantic Memorial, All I did was to shout to him, as he finished and was walking off back to his Jag. "Hey John , Come here I want a word with you. He gave a little signal and the Security pounced and held me until he left in his Jag.
.
.Now today he has been awarded £40,000 from the court investigating the Phone tapping, when he was in a dalliance with Tracy.
Now I pay tax on my miserable Pension. I wonder if he will pay the appropriate Tax on the £40,000.
If I was having a dalliance with Tracy and got £40,000 I wouldnt mind paying tax on it.
.
Here he is on the left.

Whist not an admirer of John Prescott, one has to admire the tenacity required to get from ship's steward to Deputy Prime Minister and yes I know that he will have trodden on many fingers on the way up but he did have a hand in getting Merchant Navy Day recognised

Out of my curiosity
Hi
re:Lord Prescott
The worm obviously turned (not that he could ever be classed as a worm) as once he left the sea and went into politics he threw away all those values that real seamen hold true, such as truth, honesty, etc.
Like nearly all politicos he has had his snout in the trough of our hard earn tax pounds and since his party lost the election he, like the rest of his cronies, has made a fortune out of being "advisors", after dinner speakers etc etc. God only knows who would want to take his advise or listen to him I cannot fathom.
Mind you my local M.P. is even more of a trougher. Last year earned, wait for it, £450,000 on top of his M.P.'s salary doing sfter dinner talks and acting as advisor to various groups and Companies, none of whom I can think that he has the slightest bit of knowledge about there actual workings. He went from UNI straight into his parties office as a researcher, then brown nosed himself into one of the safest seats in the land for his party. Throughout his working life he has never got his hands dirty, not even to do any gardening as he pays (and claims expenses) a gardener to occasionally cut his grass.
Am I jealous...you bet your life I am, if only I could have been a brown noser and got myself into politics then maybe I too could be sitting pretty on a tidy fortune instead of working my ass off doing a real job with great satisfaction.
Thats my gripe for the day, sorry to intrude into this thread but politicians..as Monty Python says
"I spit on your"
