Pride Of Bruges
WOW, did not think she was that old, thats a long time for P and O to keep a Ferry, have sailed on her many times as a foot passenger, still a nice looking Ship, More competition on the Dover / Calais route now that Euro Tunnel bought the Sea France ships, P and O not too happy about that.

Washing machines, fridges and cars ?
How do you make a washing machine out of an old ship?
The above title is from a BBC report:
29 July 2012:
Tom Wrigglesworth and Rob Bell travel to Belgium, to Europe's largest ship-breaking yard, to discover what happens to ships at the end of their working lives.
As they watch massive hulls being torn apart they gain an insight into how the scrap metal from their carcasses are recycled into purified steel to be used in products such as washing machines, fridges and cars.
LINK: BBC News - How do you make a washing machine out of an old ship?
Find out more in Engineering Giants: Ferry Strip-Down on Sunday 29 July at 20:00 BST on BBC Two.

Those two so called presenters should be given the boot, did they think they had to present it as if it were a "Blue Peter" programme. I have seen them present other programmes, they are like two overgrown schoolboys, and one needs a bloody good haircut. Why do programmers/presenters have to dumb down what could be potentially interesting subjects to many. Too many Wows, gollies and goshes for anyone to take it seriously, a bluddy waste of a good subject.

You have to remember that the programme is really an educational documentary and must therefore (as is BBC 2's ethos) be comprehensible to a diverse audience including children. It was not an Open University programme .Yes it appeared somewhat Blue Peter-ish to we hairy ars*ed ' know-it-all' merchant seamen, but it must have been educational and possibly quite fascinating to the non-seafaring section of society.
We lament here often enough that the MN is the forgotten service,so let's not criticize too harshly any welcome attempt to document or publicise programmes about the MN.

That looked a good number
Hi shipmates, been there done that. I was one of the men in the tanks of many ships in the dry dock in Cardiff and barry. worked on oil spills in the steel works , and on the trains cleaning out all the nasty stuff , good money on some jobs but long hours and all types of safety gear are hard work.

Gulliver whilst understanding your comments and where you are coming from, it should and could have been presented a bit better and I doubt many children would be watching between 2000 and 2100 hours, but I know you like disagreeing with all I say and I realise the "know it all" was directed at me, but fortunately my ar*e isn't as hairy as it used to be and regretfully neither is my head

You are very very sensitive Ivan , but note in my post that I included myself in that all-encompassing 'we 'hairy ars*d seamen' phrase.
Where you get that bit (implied or otherwise) about "know it all" ,I really have no idea-and am not particularly bothered either.
I made a perfectly good reply to your post and find myself having to justify it. What is happening to members on this site?
From your aggrieved defensive tone I can only surmise that I must have had the galley-radio switched off when the "Don't go upsetting Ivan " warning was broadcast.
No offense meant and none taken.
