Vacancy Description
Commissioners, operating as the Northern Lighthouse Board (Northern Lighthouse Board - Home), are the General Lighthouse Authority (GLA) responsible for the management and provision of marine Aids to Navigation in Scotland and the Isle of Man. Commissioners are established by Statute and operate as Non-Executive Directors of the Board.
Co-opted Commissioners serve for a three-year term, with the option of renewal, subject to performance. The successful candidate will be required to take up his or her appointment in June 2013. He or she will be expected to spend about 20 days a year, including time at sea, on Board work. The Board meets in Edinburgh or, occasionally, Oban and Commissioners are required to visit lighthouses and other Aids to Navigation throughout Scotland and the Isle of Man by land, sea and air, sometimes in severe weather.
Person Specification
The applicant will represent the Isle of Man in navigational matters and interests and will need to have some or all of the following attributes:
• Senior management experience at Board level
• Experience of maritime and navigational matters• An understanding of the functions and responsibilities of a public service organisation and the associated standards required
• An ability to bring independent judgement to bear on key strategic issues

I wish I could apply for it. At my age and High Blood pressure etc, I would have no chance.
But what an interesting job for some ex Seafaring man and only three weeks work a year.
