Her indoors has never had to cook in the 51 year she has been married, I do it all and enjoy it.

But as to ready made meals, they do have a place in society, it is known as the rubbish bin.
So much of the meat now in supermarkets come sin sauce ready to stick in the micro and wait for the 'bing'.

But the average house wife now here in Oz is such a bad time manager, facebook etc comes first, that they use it so the demand is met by more production.
Recent studies on this shows that show that the lower down the socioeconomic scale the person is the more they will use it.

So many have no concept of how to cook and that will flow to the next generation who will consider such meals to be the norm.

Now if we are to get Mikes ship up and sailing again then there is now way such crap will be allowed on board.

Here in the UK, Marks and Spencers, generally reckoned to be one of the better food suppliers, offer frequently dine in two for a tenner. So what you get is a main meal for two people, with side veg, plus two puds, and a bottle of wine, red or white. I just question the content of those meals, so can only assume they must be a loss leader. We had friends over from Perth WA, last year, and when i told him of this offer he would not believe me, so we went to M&S and bought one of these deals (not chicken i hasten to add ), and him and his wife said they enjoyed it, kt

Makes me envious when I read about having a good cook as a spouse, for living alone I use more than enough packets and cans containing salted food. How Des has managed without a microwave, even with a spectacular cook on board, is a mystery to me for I couldn't manage without one - m/wave that is. Frequent cooking for oneself is not something to be commended so the supermart comes in very handy. I use no sugar except on Sunday breakfast which is always porridge. Any Scots reader will be horrified that I don't use salt on porridge but I'm still surviving at 88. I'm repeatedly told I must have meat which really is baloney as vegans seem to survive OK.

I think this type of lifestyle is prevalent here also, its a sign of the times. BTW Australian beef is readily available here and is of good quality at very competitive prices.

Lads I never looked to cause a fracas ref., ready meals. BUT my W.R> has just informed me that she has informed the children (all in their 50's) that after 58 yrs of supping her cooking, 'Your father prefers those ready meals from the supermarket'. Me, I kept a dignified silence. My eldest granddaughter looked at me and seemed convinced I had lost my mind and needed to see a professional sharpish. My eldest son looked at me with a slight smile that seemed to say 'Dad over 58 yrs of marriage and you make a slip like that.
I tried to explain that I only wondered if ships cooks could be classed as redundant, and even as I said it realised how weak it sounded. So Vernon my old muckar it looks like i need a berth sharpish and the Galley Boy on Virtual seems just the ticket so as quick as you can send me a travel warrant and I'll get busy on the spuds and greens minus the salt (must think of Kong and others who have exceptions to too much of the stuff.

I remember many years ago 1958 when we were loading Beef in Buenos Aires. all the Argie men had grown big breasts. They eat a lot of Beef everyday.
Then they said it was because the Cattle were injected with Female Hormones to make them grow bigger faster.
A lot of animal foods today are injected with all kinds of chemicals and hormones.
All will eventually shorten your life. even fish are full of plastic pellets now.
