Re: 50s and 60s dads ships
i
I sailed on the MANCHESTER MERCHANT, EMPRESS OF SCOTLAND AND EMPRESS OF FRANCE.
He was lucky NOT to have been on the POOL FISHER when she sank off the Isle of Wight in 1979, she went down with 13 deaths.
Cheers

Re: 50s and 60s dads ships
Hi Sorry to be so long answering, had cataract op then infection so had antibiotic drops
First of all must have sailed with your Dad if he was on the Seniority, because I was on her from 15th November 1949 to 11th November 1950 when unfortunately we hit the rocks off the outer hebredees and sank in a gale,we were picked up by lifeboat from Barra Island,so i think I was on it most of the time Everards owned it,we were on route from Elsmere Port to Risor in Norway,we used to bring a full cargo of paper pulp that is why the pumps didn’t work.
And the other ship Syrian Prince was 27/10/53 to 19/12/53 Mediterranean,i was on deck on both
Hope this helps a little

Re: 50s and 60s dads ships
At a rough check you have listed 70+ ships he was on , they are all normal Cargo vessels of one description or another. As a matter of interest how many years was he at sea. .? Without being too inquisitive what were his birth and death dates. The early discharges if you have them will not show AB , as an AB had at least 4 years sea service in before he acquired that rating. He should have deck boy, JOS, SOS, maybe EDH, before AB. if don’t have discharge book do you at least have it’s number ? Cheers JS
