Visited Ports.
Hi all, During my time at sea I visited around 100 ports and kept a record but with so few photos I could not recall what they looked like. I have recently gone to Google Images and entered the name of each port for photos of the 1950's and I now have all ports visited during my time.

Re: Visited Ports.
Hi Phil,
What a memory !!! I was at sea for 14 years and probably visited a similar (if not more) number of ports myself but have forgotten half of them. Certain ones stick in the mind for obvious reasons, Rio, Santos, B.A., Valparaiso, Auckland, Napier, etc. etc. Didn’t take a lot of photos then (Oh for a mobile phone) but wish I’d kept a log like you, what a book it would make.

Re: Visited Ports.
Hi Davey, Yes, I really am a sad person aren't I? Ha! Ha! I saved much of my time at sea to pass to my grandchildren and have written my life story for them, highly edited I might say but yes, so much has changed even to the names of countries and ports which is why I searched them out. Happy days indeed.
Phil.

Re: Visited Ports.
I think like many others that were at Sea in those good old days, there were not many who had or kept Photos of their Trips, Posts or Experiences, which to me also is very sad.
So many good memories that are kept in the Mind are lost really as far as Photo,s go, i too wish i had done what some did. Cameras in those days were few and far between at at Sea , and as said Oh but for the Magic of Todays Mobiles!
Goo idea to go through Google though and ses just what one can come up with, it does help i am sure!
Happy days!!

Re: Visited Ports.
My biggest regret is, that I didn't bother taking a camera so no photos.

Re: Visited Ports.
absolutely, not just a case of taking a photo in our days, meant a trip ashore to have them developed, so most did not bother.

Re: Visited Ports.
Did anyone get personal photographs developed on to the likes of side or dinner plates and coloured if necessary if from a black and white photograph . I had done in Japan of the wife and kids sitting on the beach and must of been in the late 60s . The orginal method I believe was patented and marketed by the japs. When I brought home most people had never seen done. Today however It is quiet common whether true to the same or different methods I wouldn’t know . My plate sits on a pedestal and in my cabinet. Re: Visited Ports.
HI Phil
I kept a journal of my trips for a few years after I left the Vindi, but like an idiot I threw it away before I emigrated to NZ. Recently I got the ports of my trip on the Wave Baron from the RFA web site. I took the family Box Brownie when I went to sea so I have some good pics from that Camera, the two below are from my second trip, in Aug 49, two of the apprentices, and me sitting on the bits with a bloke from Birmingham holding forth, taken by my mate with my Box Brownie. I have never got around to improving them on the comp as yet.
I do remember you through the Vindi site, what year was you on the Vindi?
Cheers Des
