Its many years since i left the Fire Service, and long before EVs, but have been talking to some of the guys still in the job, and how they are tackling the job. seems that put the fire out, they use foam or dry powder, depending on the extent of the fire, but once the fire is well under way, they allow the fir to burn out, protecting the surrounding area. All well and good in the open of course, but in a confined space , deadly, with the concoction of deadly poisons giving off, BA is absolutely essential, even when burning in the open, and of course non BA wearers and the public to be kept well clear. We are certainly going to see more of these really dangerous fires occurring.
Item on BBC news this morning about the increase in fires caused by these electric scooters that have Lithium batteries self combusting. Showed one poor buggers house completely burnt out, thankfully no one injured.
Those with lithium powered mobility scooters need to be careful otherwise you may get to the shop faster than you thought. The thought of that brings back memories of the old Bugis st.Attachment 36281The dance of the flaming a---oles

Got me thinking about this ev fire on board this ship, how many BA sets would be carried on a ship today?, i have no idea, as in my day it was the old smoke hood, and fed by the bellows. With a fire like this one onboard, the average Compressed air BA set has a working duration of 35 minutes, pretty useless on an enclosed ships deck, would be no more than a quick look and exit. The fire service of course just calls up more assistance when multi sets required. Presumably there will be an enquiry, and some form of action for the future. This one has tragically cost lives.
If memory serves we carried 8 sets for emergencies . Not sure if the same sets were used as standby sets during tank inspections but those entering always carried ELSA sets with them while in the tank or void space entries
Concerning engine room fires if it cannot be brought under control quickly it is batten down, head count and flood the engineroom with CO2
You couldn't make it up! Petrol Stations in Yorkshire have purchased diesel generators to recharge their EV Charging Stations. We also know that some roadside rescue services now carry small petrol generators to recharge EVs

Reports say that amongst the mercedes and BMW cars there are a number of rolls Royce cars. Ship was bound for Egypt so maybe George Roby or jock mactavish is going to have to wait a bit for his new roller.

The wages must have gone up some what for a suez pilot. Maybe they have got a chunk of the settlement pay out from the Ever Given balls up last year. So 600 Marlboro red and a useless EV top of the range BMW or a Roller.:rolleyes:
