thanks jf ..i really cant tell how proud i am ..i think i must bore people talking about charlie but when i look back on my life in shields my time skinning out in oz and the life i had before i got into business.. i could never have ever believed that i would have grandson who would represent my great country ....when i see him in line in his england colours singing the anthem i am 10 feet tall....we never no what life has instore for us but this is above all my expectations..sorry if i bore but it is my families greatest achievment in my eyes thank you jc and others for there interest

Not at all cappy, I was always interested when you updated about his injury and treatment, if it was me I would be bursting
with pride and so would everyone else I think it's brilliant, I remember you saying he was shattered when he learned the extent
of his injury, he must have wondered if he would ever play again so now he will be feeling overjoyed to be back in the fold,
personally I hope you do tell us of how he is progressing, I'm no expert on rugby union I just enjoy watching England play in tournaments and test. cheers JF

Enjoyed your photograph, and the memories. The nursing home in Newtown was always the source of a good night as well.
Your photo shows the time ball up on the hill. Will be great when it is operating again - will help to remind the current crop of young seafarers how things really worked back in the good old days.

Cappy - your post really rang a bell! On the dev 'Ligar Bay' back in the early -1970s, the mate was Bill Brodie - a really dour Scotsman, who would hardly ever crack a smile. His nephew was half back in the Lions team that toured NZ around that time (I'm really scratching my head for his name - he was a brilliant player too). I had never seen Bill so animated as he was during that tour. Even got to the stage where the whole crew was on the bridge radio listening to the test match, and when Bill's nephew got the ball, everyone cheered!

Never forget one morning in Wellington, sitting in Bill's cabin. The crew delegate fronted, knocked on the door, stuck his head in and said, "Stop work meeting up the road at the union office this morning Mr - just thought I would let you know".
Bill, sitting straight-faced at his desk - "Thank you for telling me, else I wouldn't have noticed the difference!"

Hi Cappy.
The Bledislow cup on here soon Aussie v The All Blacks, we haven't won since Jesus was a cowboy, but the Kiwis looked a bit vulnerable against the Lions. They are saying that the Aussies have to rush the Kiwis like the Lions did to put them of stride, worked for them MIGHT work for us.
Glad to hear the boy is back in town.
