Re: Putin must be loving this
Makes me smile when some here try and talk up Russia. Those that do !! why not go live there I am sure you would be welcome.
I have sailed with Russians and Ukrainians. Russians I found to be arrogant and could not be trusted, but to be fair one cannot condem a nation because of a handful of plonkers I met on a ship. Ukrainians I found to be hard working and certainly had a good idea as to what their jobs were. I found Polish ETO's to be excellent if they could not fix it no one could,

Quite agree, reminds me of the 1950/1960's with RED KEN and his cohorts declaring communism was the best thing since sliced bread, but they never went to live or visit China to see how it really was, those of us who traded there saw it (and the restrictions imposed on us) every man, woman and child with their mao collared kapok suits, no cars, except for the elite, restriction of movement from one town to another, armed officious guards all over the ship, no locked doors allowed, no cameras, no sketching materials and god help you if you had an insurance wall map showing Tibet, you were taken ashore for a geography lesson, yep our Red Kens and their ilk would soon be wishing for their pie and a pint and the right to demonstrate in a country they appeared to hate, but they never went to find out.

Re: Putin must be loving this
Hi Ivan.
I totally agree with your assessment of China back in the days, but now the biggest tourists are Chinese people and not the upper class, coming from peasants like the British did many years ago, it has been along climb out of poverty helped by the fact that they now get a fair go. when you look at the demise of the American dream, who will end up best in the long run? And all done without subduing other countries.

#14. If you go by the original doctrine of Karl Marx who I think is buried in London , it is in theory the ideal world for most. However in practice as usual it doesn’t match the theory. However saying that Chinese history shows the peasants of China were probably still better off under the harsh rule of early communism than the war lords who ruled them for century’s. A lot of anti Chinese bile is churned up by media stories and such like, myself I have always found it a pleasure to work with the Chinese in the civilian world.JS

Re: Putin must be loving this
Having spent 18 months in Shanghia on new builds for BP & Clisco LNG Project ships. I have never seen so much wealth and a lot more poverty anywhere else. Of course modern China has no need for wars they have already won. The west has handed China the lot on a plate.
Agree Ivan, the likes of Red Ken and Corbyn talk the talk but will never do the walk. Then we have Red Des who could not be any further away from Russia if he tried
