Sailed with an engineer who had had experience of both the Durango and Deseado...he didn't have a very high opinion of them either.

Hi Bob Six on the Aragon 67 to early 68. Got off just before she went to Shaw Saville . Quite a run that, I've still got a cowhide that Mario the leather king persuaded me to buy the first time I went to his shop in Montevideo. Used to drink in the Ancla Bar on occasion, just up from the dockgates. As for BA well the things my mum forgot to tell me

I had completely forgotten that ritual so yes we must have passed. Talking of rituals I recall being told not to go aft near the hospital after leaving Rio because the contrabandistas would be dumping their parcels overboard for collection by motor boat. How true that was I've no idea since I didn't dare go and look! I guess the first shock for an innocent abroad was seeing the phantom gobbler being pursued along the Burma rd by an E/R Greaser, a day out from Santos. Not something one could put in the letter home to Mum.

Dont forget that the morgue and the padded cell were down there to had o few smokes in the morgue hiding from the bosuns mate ,and poor old J. C .after they picked him up in Santos after a month or two ashore there was locked in the cell till we cleard the coast. The time in the morgue was out bound (empty) there was allways a few guest in there on the way home regards Bob c

Aragon 1961. It was the only ship I didnt enjoy.
Maybe thats why Paddy, the pig's barman, and me, locked ourselves in the pig on St Pat's day.
My only happy memory.
Wasnt too happy about my head next day, or the logging.
