Hi to all Royal Mailers,
I was second mate on the Eden for many years in the 60's I also did time on Essequibo, Deseado Parima Pardo Andes. I started as an Apprentice in 1957 and went into Shaw Sav's dock office as berthing Master in 1970.
I was made redundant in the big FW reorganisation in 1972.

I came home DBS on the Ebro during this time. I was in hospital in Puerto Rico, having been taken off the homeward bound "Pampas" by a US coastguard cutter just north of the Caribbean. I had some kind of a high fever which was worrying the Captain, so ended up in the Presbyterian Hospital in San Juan, feeling much better after a couple of days. Thence to Jamaica and to Ocho Rios, where I joined the Ebro, loading bauxite, I think.
Spent a lot of time playing deck tennis with a passenger called Rhoda? Smith

Hello John Neary,
Colin Pook here. I joined the Parima about 19 Dec. 1958 in Avonmouth. We sailed for Newport S.Wales right onthe stroke of noon on Christmas day. We spent most of Xmas day afternoon throwing timber--dunnage? into the Bristol Channel and went into Newport Boxing day. Next was Swansea on New Years day then Middlesborough and London. Fantastic trip starting in La Guaira and ending up in Houston loading grain for Aberdeen and Manchester. My oppo's were Fraser Allen,
'Foxy Fowler' (lamp trimmer), and Joe Polski. We were away about 4 and half months.
Perhaps our paths have crossed!
Happy New Year,
Colin.
