Re: Fleetwood, a seafaring town.
Brian WTF have you got against the continent boyo? We have to get you over for a drink & a laugh it is OK really quite safe if away from the gypsies foods pretty good, booze delicious. Yep Aus & Kiwi wine can be delicious guess it is just cheaper than French or Italian in UK did not look when there. Would much rather French or Italian dry white any day to an Aus or Kiwi. Gerard Depardieu says he will shout you a good nose bag & some fine wine give it a go (: you never know you just might change your thoughts?

Re: Fleetwood, a seafaring town.
Oh Contra mon ami as Dell would say, the majority of the cheapest wines are now French, with Ozz and Kiwi at premium prices especially the Marlboroughs', Italian Barola s are also premium prices, Chilean are good easy drinking, Argentinian I don't buy on principle, my favourite easy drinking when not dining is Chatenuef de Pape (unfortunately it's not one of the cheaper French)

Re: Fleetwood, a seafaring town.
Hi Richard,
I have hated the eu ever since I was forced to live under their Laws and flag. I didn't vote to go into Europe, it was imposed upon me against my will.
In Fleetwood if you say you support the eu you would lynched.
Brussels fishing laws destroyed a good hard working Fishing town. All the trawlers had to be scrapped even the new ones, they were not even allowed to sell them,
the lives of hundreds of people depended on Fishing now all gone because of their rules, The Belgian, French and Spanish trawlers continue to fish our fishing grounds. Their method of fishing destroys the fishing grounds, they drag along the sea bed, killing the feeding and breeding ground and leave it sterile. The British way was to fish several feet above the ground so leaving the breeding and feeding to sustain more fish.
I do not like to be governed by foreigners, It is bad enough to be ruled by our own Politicians But not to have the Foreigners in Strasbourg over riding the Laws of Britain.
We were independent for a thousand years and these foreigners, who have conveniently forgotten and airbrushed out of history the fact that we saved them, at a terrible cost to the British people, from a Dictatorship, Now they are behaving like Dictators to us.
The sooner we get Independence the better, We were a successful Nation before the eu took over, now we are relegated to being a small province of Europe.
Now you know why I want to get out of Europe, I will never go there for a vacation, I never buy anything that is made in Europe, I don't want to know anything about Europe,
I am British English and want to remain so. that is why I drink Australian and New Zealand wines, they supported us against the europeans in WW2 and WW1 at a terrible cost to themselves, That is why I prefer to go down there to spend my money instead of in Europe.
So that is the answer Richard,
All the best to you over there but not for me, I have my principles and solidarity with the good folk of Fleetwood who are unemployed with no hope by the stupid eu.
Cheers
Brian

Have to disagree with you on the wine mate. Oz wine is afr better than any produced in France or Italy. In Europe they are allowed to add additional sugar during fermentation process, here in Oz that is not allowed. Now more Oz wine exported around the world than French.

Re: Fleetwood, a seafaring town.
The French wines are the cheapest in the UK and the poorest Quality , Australian , and South African , Mew Zealand , Chilean all exceed the cheapest French for taste and consistent quality . We may be an Island Nation Richard . But a quick trip to St Omar means I can leave home at eight , do the Shopping in France and be home by eight that evening , a few years ago we did that monthly as with a discounted day ticket on the train for the car meant the diesel and shopping was well covered ,now France is more expensive by a good percentage , you can et very good quality products in the UK , our regional cheeses , regional meats , and the seafood , much exported to Brittany is as good as any you will find in France . Not only did I do fourteen years visiting every third day on the Ferry , but in the food industry we exported Apple Juice , because we could supply a product that could not be produced in France . So whilst not having Brian's passionate distaste for all things European , I do love some British things that the French buy , Dorset Spider Crabs , Squid , cuttlefish , Scottish Salmon , lWelsh Lamb , Scottish Beef , Specialist Cheeses , look at what we pay into Europe , we may be small in land area but we do punch above our weight. .

Re: Fleetwood, a seafaring town.
Have stated before I always try and source British produce in food and products but think the French have the best wine and it's not cheap! Favourite's are - in no particular order, Sancerre, Pouilly Fume, Grande Cru, Saint Emilion and Pink Champagne. Spanish Albarino delicious, Australian Merlot, NZ
Sauvignon Blanc very good and English pear cider yummy. Think what I'm trying to say is I won't go thirsty!! Oh and like cocktails too

Re: Fleetwood, a seafaring town.
I would not spend one penny on French Products,
Those Scabs were selling Exocet Missiles and Super Entarde Jets to the Argies to kill our Sailors and Soldiers and Airmen.

Re: Fleetwood, a seafaring town.
In a blind taste test conducted by the London Wine Academy eight out of ten people preferred a bottle of wine costing £4.99 to a £19.99 option made from the same grapes.
And six in ten thought the £4.99 version was the more expensive of the two.
The academy, however, insists the £19.99 bottle is superior and that it takes some knowledge, tasting and experience to understand why.
However, the ordinary consumer might well argue that personal taste is a better judge, while the cheaper option is also more gentle on the pocket.
Data was gathered from 20,000 enthusiasts attending courses at the academy over 20 years.
On average, 80 per cent preferred the taste of Aspen Hills Chardonnay from South East Australia, which costs £4.99 from Majestic Wine.
They put it ahead of the more expensive Gerard Thomas Saint-Aubin 1er Cru from Burgundy, France, which is £19.99 at Waitrose and Majestic.

Re: Fleetwood, a seafaring town.
Thank you Robpage for the information, I'm afraid I'll have agree to differ from the 20,000 enthusiasts. It obviously depends on your own palette and I know what I prefer. It doesn't stop me enjoying what Australian & NZ wines have to offer.
