Will some one enlighten me, as to what is this medal is, it saying Passed and Present Seafarers.
Doe's that mean, as I read it, we are all going to Buck house, to see Queenie, and get a medal.
also doe's it mean, we all get a rise in our pensions, Or doe's it mean passed and present seafarers,
who saw conflict. answer on a post stamp please.

Re: Diamond Jubilee Medal
To mark The Queen's Diamond Jubilee, an official medal will be awarded to those in the Armed Forces and emergency services, and to prison service personnel.
The following people will be eligible for The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal:
- members of the Armed Forces (regular and reserves) who have completed five full calendar years of service on 6 February 2012
- emergency services personnel who have been in paid service, retained or in a voluntary capacity, who have to face the prospect of dealing with emergencies as part of their conditions of service, and have completed five full calendar years of service on 6 February 2012
- operational prison services personnel who regularly face difficult and sometimes emergency situations and have completed five full calendar years of service on 6 February 2012
- all Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) who are in service on 6 February 2012 and have completed five full calendar years of service
- living holders of the Victoria Cross and George Cross
- members of the Royal Household
Seafarers , as usual get sweet nothing , again , I went to sea for the exotic places , interesting people , and a pocket full of dosh , so again they can take their medals and pin them !

Re: Diamond Jubilee Medal
It was reported in April 2012 that some recipients of the British medal had been criticised for offering their awards for sale on eBay, while ex servicemen and women, the Merchant Navy, and St. John Ambulance were angered at being overlooked due to the "economic climate." Recognising that "some people and organisations might be disappointed," a government spokesman said: "It is also important to maintain the integrity and exclusivity of the medal, and it is simply not possible to include all these groups."

They are a rare breed . and only are seen on summer evenings , usually in mating pairs , they hold hands as part of a mating ritual , and the males display so they can look like a policeman , at first glance , Like many almost extinct species , they are fairly inactive , and chatter to the local low lifes

Re: Diamond Jubilee Medal
Seems to me that the British merchant navy is a non existant thing of the past. I have always said seafarers are considered by the majority of the British Public as third rate citizens. The only nautical country in the world that gained its empire through the abilities of its mariners. The times I have been to Scandanavian countries, they have a total different aspect on their seafarers. Drake, Raleigh. Collingwood, Nelson would turn in their graves. The thousands who gave their lives in the past, the only people who remember are the last of the few remaining. Will soon be forgotten unless called upon again, but will unfortuanetly be too late, as the numbers are not there and never will be again. Should imagine it hurts certain continentals to have to view Nelsons Column, so the lifespan of same may be numbered. JS

Re: Diamond Jubilee Medal
The historians have the shipowners down as Bristol and Liverpool slavers anyway so expect they will show seafarers as drunken men ripping young Africans from their homes , and trading them to the Americas , not only do the academics find us an embarrassment , they will want us to apologise to all the Africans we disrupted the lives of . Feeding the populace in two World Wars , Supporting the Army and Navy in Freeing the Falklands , Building the British Empire , it will all be airbrushed away . We should apologise now to the displaced Afro Americans whose lives we ruined , We should Apologise to the environmentalists whose lands we have polluted with our bilges and spills , Maybe we should load up one last Tramp Ship with Politicians and Historians , sell them off on the african coast and see if we can get our trinkets back
