Panama Canal
Opening of Panama Canal, 100 years ago on the 15th August. 1914,
I expect most of you will have been through it at one time or another.
and how many got caught into saving bread etc to feed the mules, quite a few I reckon.
Its estimated that over 27,000 workers died while it was being built.

Re: Panama Canal
I believe the Egyptians are planning to build another piece of canal, alongside a narrow section, to enable more ships to use the facility, instead of having to join a queue to proceed through the Suez Canal. They intend to pay for it themselves, which makes a change!

I hold my hand up Fred. In 1957 I was galley boy on the San Fernando with a load of bread crusts.
