QM2 Chart
On deck 12 of QM2 there is a chart which indicates the progress of Mary as she crosses the Atlantic. When I went up to have a look one day, I was quite surprised to see an error in the naming of a body of water. Georgian Bay has been mistakenly labeled as Lake Huron. Lake Huron is actually the body of water to the immediate west of Georgian Bay. This is particularly disturbing to me for a Cunard ship, especially since Samuel Cunard was a Canadian!
I feel compelled to notify the map-maker of this error but failed to write the name down and cannot remember who the map-maker is. Can anyone shed any light?

Re: QM2 Chart
Navigation Charts are usually...........
Nautical charts produced by the British government (the United Kingdom Hydrographic Office or UKHO) represent complete coverage of the oceans of the world. This series comprises more than 3,300 sheets and is made up of all scales from ultra-small scale charts of entire seas to ultra-large scale port plans.
These Admiralty Standard Navigational Charts are used by the Royal Navy and the world's merchant marines to comply with SOLAS Regulations and to ensure safe navigation. They are designed to meet the needs of commercial and recreational mariners and can be used for passage planning and to assist with coastal passages, approaches to ports and to secure berthing in harbours.
.
The Chart on deck 12 is usually a normal Navigation Chart,
They are published in Taunton, Somerset UK
Under the Superintendence of Admiral ********* Hydrographer of the Navy.
*** Depending on the Admiral at the time.
Pity you didnt take a photo of the whole chart.
Hope that helps Jacyn. I have an old Chart in front of me now. from 1980. and This is what it says on the botton of every Chart
Cheers
Brian.

Re: QM2 Chart
Thanks, Brian. I knew you'd know and my memory has been refreshed - the UKHO was indeed on the bottom of the chart. I shall contact them posthaste.
You're right, it is a pity I didn't take a photo of the whole chart. Can't imagine why... must have been overwrought by the error... ha ha ha!
And thanks for the link, Doc. I'll be getting right on that.
Cheers!

Re: QM2 Chart
Hi Jacyn, to save you writing a letter I can visualise the reply you will receive.
Dears Mrs Wade
Thank you for the interest you have shown in our publications and in particular our chart number 007 which was first drawn up in 1722. Whilst we agree that indeed it may be called Georgian Bay locally it is known as Lake Huron internationally and large scale charts issued will show the correct notations of all navigational points of interest and for the safety of the mariner. Chart number 007 is a reference chart only and is not to be used for navigational purposes and is normally used on passenger ships as a generalisation only.
Again we thank you for the interest you have shown in our products and please do not hesitate to contact us again should you require any further information
Yours faithfully
Secretary to Admiral couldn't have been bothered.
Dates and chart numbers invented. Give it a try Jacyn they may prove me wrong and you may get a complementary chart as a keepsake. Good luck
