The simple life
Where did the simple life go ???, last week we had the usual book of Xmas raffle tickets from our Mountbatten hospice here on the Isle of Wight, they do a fantastic job with people with terminal illness, and we have a standing bank donation to them as a charity. The previous week we had won £10 on their monthly lottery raffle, the raffle book was also £10, so my wife thought i will send the £10 by cheque, plus a !0£ donation, simple, she made it known the extra was a donation, oh dear, what problems. So we now receive a letter from them, can we contact them as soon as possible as the system won't cope with the tickets and a donation. So letters, and phone calls , all for £10. Computers were supposed to make life simple, kt

Re: The simple life
I have just received a US Dollar Cheque, I am in Fleetwood,
They have closed ALL the Banks in Fleetwood and Blackpool, My nearest Bank is in Preston,25 miles away, I got on the phone. We are closing the banks because people now do Internet Banking.
There are cash machines if you want cash. BUT How do I pay in a Cheque?/? the man said find a bank that is open, So I have to travel a 50 mile trip to pay in a cheque.

Re: The simple life
You should be able to deposit a cheque using a paying-in slip at the Post Office.
Available for free to customers of 28 banks, including all the high street big names such as HSBC, Barclays and NatWest. The Post Office says it's able to serve 99% of UK banking customers.

In Fleetwood they have closed all the post offices except one. I have never been in it yet do not know if I trust that kind of banking.

Re: The simple life
Similar here in Blackheath the only Bank that we had has closed ,however the ATM Machine is still working although the premises have been taken over by an Antique Shop
We have three ATM Machines here now ,but it is still annoying that there are no Banks!
Nearest one now is Katoomba which is not too far but makes it awkward for many of the Older ones living here now!

Re: The simple life
Our bank closed two years ago, nearest branch Canberra 200 kilometer round trip, there are other banks here but we had been with ours for nearly fifty years, in fact since it was a building society. We can use the PO which we do, for all our bill payments, so no sweat, except for what happened to loyalty?
