From top gear to interesting explorer's
https://www.google.com/search?q=the+...%20james%20may
On Chanel 5 in the u.k, ex top gear presenter James may has been exploring the facts and myths behind the likes of captain cook, Walter Raleigh, Christopher Columbus etc.
Very interesting and told with a good dose of cynical humour.

Maybe it was filmed down the Backworth pit Des, with only the Davis lamps for illumination. ? The cafe on the seafront in Whitley Bay had plenty of light and fresh air, it was just down the road from where I lived at one time. JS

Re: From top gear to interesting explorer's
Do you remember the Lloyds hailing station close to the North Shields fish quay then John, and do you remember the Polish vessel the Anna a regular runner into the Tyne for Pit Props ? If so you may remember the conversation one time between Lloyds and the vessel during a thick fog conversation between the two on the vessels passage up to Hebburn ? “ Lloyds to vessel by loudhailer what ship and where bound ?”, Answer “Anna and Hobbon” , Again Lioyds hailing station “ What ship ? “. Again “ Anna” , after a couple more tries with the same reply, the frustrated loud hailer user came back “ I nah ee nah but I wanna nah annahl. “. Should have waited for the fog to clear ! JS

Re: From top gear to interesting explorer's
Believe Cairn Line was 1 Howard Street, North Shields , Des .When I came back into British vessels after a 5 year sojourn, one of the many phone calls I received was from them offering me a job. On asking the wages it was about 50 pounds less than had been getting on an Indian vessel and told them so. Oh ! But they said we look after our own people, needless to say I turned down, not too long after this they went to the wall and I wondered and hoped their people were properly compensated. Such was the downfall of British vessels top to bottom of the heap in a relatively short time. Cheers JS

Captain Cook discovered Australia, so did 187 other nationalities.
Now we is short of home grown ones, full of ethnics and the likes.
