Hello from Charleston SC
Hi, this is my first time registered on this site.
I was sailing merchant ships from 1972 till 1982.as an electrical Officer
Started off standing by various of the Clipper ships built in Smith Dock for Whitco Marine moved on to some of their more obscure ships, then a couple of Temple boats.
Moved on to TFL and their container ships and finished up working for Uiterwyk Lines.
As I get older I become more nostalgic, ergo my visiting this site.
Incidentally my Father was a Chief Engineer with White Star Lines (Frederick Sutcliffe) and my Grandfather was Chief Engineer with Cunard
Love to chat with anyone where there seems to be a meeting of the histories
Regards

Hey ssutcliffe! Or should I say neighbor? I'm just up 95 from you, Manning S.C.. I was in catering, on Port Line, Burries and Marks and the Union-Castle lines, back in the fifties. This is a good site, hope you enjoy it.
Smooth sailing, Rodney.

Hi ssutcliffe, Would that have been Sith Dock Middlesbrough ? I served my time there as an apprentice fitter 53 to 58 before going off into the MN. Guess the ships you refer to came along after my time there. Best regards. Barr Simpson.

Hi ssutcliffe. I sent you a reply yesterday and I received back another message from a person in NZ who had joined a ship, the Stanrealm I think, in Smith Dock's 1957, The reason I am vague about this is simply because I saw the message and before I could deal with it properly I went off to read another message and promptly LOST the NZ message. If you are still out there 'NZ Mariner' and watching please get back to me so that we can begin again. I think I can recall the ship in particular but not much in the way of detail.
Sorry to 'ssutcliffe' for taking a ride on your message to reach someone else but I'm sure you will understand.

long lost cousin - maybe
Seen your hello from Charlston SC and wonder if we have a family connection. I think from what you say that your Dad may be Frederick Norman Sutcliffe and you Grandad William Clapham Sutcliffe. If so then your Grandad married Mary Ellen Norman who was my Grandad's sister. My Dad was Liittle Indian Alfie and knew your Gran and Grandad as Auntie Nellie and Uncle Willie. He probably stayed with them for a while in Liverpool when he returned from India with my Gran in 1913. If I'm right, which I hope I am, then Ann (my wife) and I and our family visited your family in Hornsea probably about 1967/8 and had tea with your Mum and Dad and some of you children. Am I right about this? Itwoiuld be good to know.
Also my sister Helen stayed with Auntie Nellie and Uncle Willie in Southampton? Around about 1950. She went with Elizabeth Sutcliffe who is your Uncle Norman's daughter. Like us this Sutcliffe branch lived in Crosby, Liverpool at the time.
I'd be very interested to know if this all fits in.

Hi there, I am the great granddaughter of your grandfathers ‘Uncle Willie’s’ sister Madge. I am trying to find out a bit more about the incredible contribution he made in WW2 and wondered if you had any stories to tell of it. Plus it would be fantastic to make contact with a family member. Many thanks, Catherine
