I took the liberty to aid in tribute and remembrance for Arthur:

In a little tranquil corner of the World Wide Web.

    "Remembrance" –

A tranquil space on the WWW, that may offer some space away from it all and both time and a space to remember. “Lest we forget”.

    Hello Graham,

Yes you are right. I was just looking at a Google map of the area. That is the hospital were my uncle died. Such history all in that place. Thanks for your input.

My spirits are lifted just looking and thinking of all the great places in and around that area.
...if I don't make haste, I shall have to go back through the looking-glass...back into the old room-and there'd be an end of all my adventures! ...

Sending my happy thoughts through the looking-glass.

    Default Another Thought

Tower Hill as we call Trinity Gardens is open virtually everyday, from near dawn to near dusk. The Sunday near to Merchant Navy Day: September the 3rd every year, would be advised for a visit to remember a loved / lost one with the many that can attend an Annual Commemoration and Service.

The International seafaring charity Sailors’ Society are on hand to plant hundreds of Red Ensign flags, donated by veterans, families of lost seafarers and supporters of the charity, creating a moving ‘Sea of Remembrance’ after the Merchant Navy Association’s Service; the Society also place a wreath in tribute in the centre of the flags.

Each flag has a special, heartfelt message from the donor, including; “To all seafarers everywhere, calm seas and safe harbours for you to come home to” and “To all the young men who risked their lives to keep us supplied with food and fuel.” Many remember loved ones and give thanks for sacrifices made today as well as in the past.

The flags stand alongside the many wreaths that are laid by the veterans.

I have provided prior and will do so here soon again the contact details for the Sailors’ Society, they will send out if you apply an red ensign flag pack. This you can fill in / complete and return and for next years commemoration if you can attend or not Arthur could be remembered within a Sea of such ensigns at Tower Hill.

I will further contact the National MNA and request that we may arrange a small corner of the monument area where a possible plaque or similar for all those that also sailed out of conflicts may be remembered and MN wooden crosses (Hearts of Oak) be laid / planted. If this is acheived then may it be in Arthur's name for all that have Crossed the Bar, but will not otherwise appear on any memorial. Your post here and quest to find his resting place may achieve somwhere for many others to grieve, reflect and remember etc.

I know of one little corner in particular, but we on site would need to find a new Meeting Place.

Further my thoughts on "Cutty Sark" were to do with the hospital, but, I was unaware of the Hospital location, was going by Greenwich being where Arthur "Crossed the Bar"

Thanks to Graham, all reinforces a visit to Tower Hill, Cutty Sark - Greenwich and why not Plymouth or any where prepared to remember and allow a remembrance tree or similar. I would certainly add Glasgow to a remembrance of this man.

My own Grand Father was lost in France, all records apparently destroyed during the last war.

    "LEST WE FORGET, THEM ALL".

    Red face I am overwhelmed!

    Dear Keith,
I am overwhelmed by your words. As I said before if truth be told I'm a very sentimental person!

First, regarding your previous comment: "I cannot believe that I missed such an interesting post and have now read all threads:"
I can't believe the outpouring of kindness on this board from so many members!

Second: regarding your post: "So many grieve in many countries for those with no known grave. Each should have an appointed site that relatives may visit to remember."

So true. Many have hearts that silently remember.

Third: regarding your action: "I took the liberty to aid in tribute and remembrance for Arthur:"

Thank you. Your words are a tribute to all who have sailed under the Merchant Navy Red Flag.

And last: You wrote: “To all seafarers everywhere, calm seas and safe harbours for you to come home to”

I think that we need to know that all have reached a safe harbor. My feeling is that my cousin feels that way about his father. We live our lives and hope that we have no regrets. However due to circumstances beyond our control we are unable to say or do the things. In stages of our lives we say 'what if'. Here I am again rambling on. I think you know what I'm trying to say.

    Thank you.

Default "Lest We Forget" Them All.

Every thing I do and say is in truth from the heart and as said a London, Tower Hill special further memorial to all those lost (MN) Will be pursued. Surely makes common sense to remember all.

Many good men have been lost out of conflict, this does not mean that they did not enter a fray during WW1 when countless survivors that crossed the bar between wars or continued and survived into WW2, Death may not be attributed to the many actions of the times.

Surely it is not to much to ask for a simple plaque and a little space in this Green and Pleasent land, that those lost out of war zones, but gave so much or further just gave, can also be Further Remembered or at least be Not Forgot?

A little bit somewhere in our Homeland should not be to much to ask, that we remember all of them.

    "Lest We Forget"

Smile HAPPY NEW YEAR I am overwhelmed!

    Hello All my Dear Friends,

I hope the NEW YEAR has started out with lots of love, happiness and good cheer for all.

    GOOD NEWS! Long awaited!

I just received a wonderful e-mail from a lovely lady from Tottenham Cemetery in England.
She has confirmed that my Uncle Arthur John Robin (1915-1953) is buried there in the northern section. I now have the lair number and she will send a map of the cemetery.
I have tears of joy. He has been remembered all these long years and now we know where he rests.

I had contact with my cousin before the holidays. Over the Christmas holidays he always goes to New Zealand to visit his wife's family.
He lives in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia! My heart is heavy to see the devastating floods in that area. I hope he is out of harms way. My prayers and thoughts are with all the people there.
I have e-mailed him and will await any news! I will keep you all updated.

    Your ever thankful friend,
    Karola
