Looking for amazing war heros that new my beloved grandad

Hi all, my grandad served on the artic convoys , he was my hero. I have all his medals even the latest that came after his death (wish he would of seen it!). I have a written account of his and all your time spent serving our country and i would like to spread this piece of history that is important and shows how we are still united today. I just dont know whwre to do this, its hand written so i can type it. Also would be amazing to thank you all for your service and keep generation after generation understanding history. Would also like to know if anyone knew my amazing grandad - he was my absolute world my best friend and so interesting. Donald Middleton.

It would be very interesting for you to Type that account up and Post it on the Forum,i am sure it would take the interest of many here.
All you have to do is once all Typed ,just Select all the Text then Copy and then open a new Thread and Paste that in there.

Hi Lindsay.
If you have the names of the ships you Grandfather sailed on, list them on site, a long shot, but you never know if someone had a relative who sailed with him.

My Father in law now deceased was in the Royal Navy ( Though a Kiwi) and served in the Arctic convoys notably the infamous PQ17 on a corvette not the largest of vessels. He has the Arctic convoy meal from the Russians.

Hello Nigel and Lindsay,
You are eligible to apply for Grandad's Arctic Star. You will need his Death Certificate and names of his ships. Ships should be easy to obtain from the Royal Navy. The Arctic Star is awarded to Merchant men, Royal Navy and the Air Force who were engaged in the Arctic.
L[ATTACH=CONFIG]29062[/ATTACH Arctic Star was first issued in March 2013. The colours represent Air Forces = light blue. Dark blue = Royal Navy. Red = Merchant Navy. White edged with black = Arctic.

I attended a rare occasion yesterday a young couple got married in a church lovely service lovely day and we have just returned after spending the night in the Crown Plaza hotel on the old Princess dock site on the pier head, Absolutely beautiful reception drinks a bit pricy but we had a lovely room for the night and where sat down to a full English breakfast at 8am as much fruit as you could eat, And then whatever you wanted self service help yourself. No one kicks you out the hotel but you must vacate your room by 10am. After eating and drinking our fill of tea and coffee me and the wife went for a walk onto the pier head where the the Cruise ship Viking sun is moored waiting for a high tide tomorrow, there was very few hands aboard and I got chatting to the gangway watchman after i explained I had sailed out of the Princess dock quit a few times back in the day he wasn't British but spoke perfect English, As much as I would like to take you on a tour he said but rules are rules and its more than my jobs worth however he walked me and the wife up the gangway and my wife was I ore at how big the ship was to which both me and him laughed you should have been here when the big liners sailed and that made for a good chat between me and him, He chanced walking us around the boat deck for about 15 minutes chatting of days gone by which we both shared until we where interrupted by one of the ships officers he said we where relatives and escorted us down the gangway, It all made for a very enjoyable 24 hours indeed we don't realize sometimes what we have and how lucky we scousers are at times. To get on such a ship if not a passenger is nigh impossible.

John if I hadn't have known what I was talking about I would never have got aboard, My wife asked me what the round rings where on the mooring lines There rat guards dear either to keep them from boarding or prevent them coming ashore, To which brought a wry smile to his face I think that unlocked the key

Terry mate, the way the world is today some of those Rat Guards around Parliament might not be a bad idea. LOL
