Hello
Hello,
My Father (now deceased) was in the Merchant Navy, with his 1st voyage being for Houlder Brothers sailing on the MV Hornby Grange from London on 28th November 1955.
After that most sailings were on Clan Line ships, the last of which came into Glasgow in September 1964.
Just wondered if anyone knew where that 1st sailing went to?
I know some of his routes took him to Argentina and Australia, but not sure as to the destination of his first trip?

Re: Hello
#1 Just a small bit of info. Relating to those British vessels trading with the Argentine in 1955, on British vessels It was usual for all ships crews to carry a special passport issued usually by the Argentine Consulate before sailing this with photo attached was to let the shore authoritys know who and what you were when ashore. Don’t know if this practice continued after 1955 as was in Buenos Aires a longtime after this and can’t remember this practice still being in force . This may have been in your father’s effects ? However his dis. book would be more effective if you hope to trace his movements. JS. I should have described the passport as more of a shore pass. His Discharge book number would be the most important piece of the puzzle to have. JS

Re: Hello
Hello Stuart
Welcome and thanks for the Question.
A quick answer to that would be to get the Voyage Record Card from the Guildhall Library , London.
An Email to them with the Ships name and Year you want is what they would need. From there they will send you the VRC for that period. Dont know these days what the charge is. ?
Cheers
Voyage Record Cards 1927 - c1975 (1)-compressed.pdf
The longer way is to apply for his CRS10 Cards which would hold all his Ships he was on, but that would not show all Ports visited , only the Start and End Ports.
Cheers

Re: Hello
I do have his Discharge A Number: R611779 ROBB 09/01/1935 KIRKCALDY, and I'm presuming that the CR10 I'd need to request would be within this batch?

Re: Hello
Stuart
Not 100% on this but have the suspicion that the Ship Hornby Grange from London on 28th November 1955, sailed out going to La Plata. Argentina As said not 100% sure.
May be Mike Hall would be able to help, as i am sure he was on that ship, but cannot recall when?
Cheers
Added
Just checked and i was incorrect! Sorry.
Here is the site which lists the dates that Ship went there.
Cheers

However i also see hat the Ship did indeed go to and from there later on, so the Link i gave must be Out of Date, so still could well be that i was correct ???

Re: Hello
Thanks for that, however I'm slightly confused as the link I posted has the Description as:
Description: Robb A to Roberts David (Which would cover his surname),
but your Link has it as:
Description: Kinsey A to Kirke K R J
and both Links reference the same years.
Hope you can clarify.
